Superbad

As I've mentioned in the Covid thread I've currently got Covid so I'm self isolating for the next 8 days. So basically I'm gonna kill off Netflix in between doing some DIY around the house.

Love Superbad, so fucking stupid and funny. Mclovin steals the movie for me.

8/10

Get well soon!

Get well, soon, mate. Don't be shy to ask for suggestions. Maybe consider getting that free Amazon Prime trial while you're self isolating. Some decent stuff on there as well. Or Disney Plus for that matter.

Sound of Metal (2019)

This felt like a real authentic indie movie. I felt like I was following the character's story, instead of actually watching a movie. It just felt real. So many things that could have gone "typically Hollywood" plot-wise, instead it just felt like something that would happen to a real person. No unnecessary drama or sub-plots that we are so used to from movies nowadays. Great performance by Riz Ahmed as well. Give it a go if you want to watching something good!

The Platform

Spanish film which I watched in English dub on Netflix, basically a prison with 300 plus floors with one cell per floor with two occupants.

In the centre of the cell is a hole that leads down from the top of the building to the bottom floor. Food comes down on a lift from top to bottom with each floor getting 2 minutes to eat as much as they can. So basically if your on floor 1 you get first dibs but if your beyond 50 your basically going to starve.

At the end of each month the room is filled with gas and the inmates are moved to a different random floor. This often leads to suicides when some realise they are on a floor they won't eat on. It also leads to canabalism running rife in the prison as well.

Actually total mindfuck of a film, gripped me from start to finish.

I often wonder how fucked up in the head someone has to be to come up with a movie plot like that... xD

The Escorts

Weirdly this movie has a different name on Amazon prime to IMDB, on IMDB its called Amateur Night.

Basically Jason Biggs (American Pie) plays a down in his luck architect who's wife is heavily pregnant and due to burst at any time. Unfortunately due to his unemployment he can't afford his medical insurance so is forced to take the first job he could find on Craigslist.

What he didn't know was the delivery driving job he thought he was doing was actually delivering prostitutes to various different locations.

This was sort of supposed to be a comedy but got lost somewhere between that and soft pornography.

You sometimes unearth gems.

The Platform was brilliant, The Escorts was terrible. 😂

Sir Alex Ferguson, Never give in

Don't think it's a surprise I was gripped to this. Even though I've read his autobiography it still makes his achievements even more incredible when you see them on screen.

You could argue taking Aberdeen to three league titles and a Cup winners cup was just as big if not bigger achievement than what he did for United. Beating Munich and Madrid to win the Cup was incredible with a club that trained on a park and on the beach!!!

It also touches on the Brain Hemorrhage that nearly cost him his life in 2018 and how he feared he'd lose his memory.

10/10

Big Stan

Comedy about a real estate agent who gets convicted of fraud and has to serve 3 years in prison.

Stan decides to learn Martial Arts to prevent any possibility of being raped inside.

Was I the only one in the world that didnt care for The Platform? I see it got all these glowing reviews, even here, won festival awards etc. I just thought it was a pretty fucked up idea and not really anything groundbreaking or special at all. Overall I was super whelmed. 5/10 at most.

The Intruder (2019) - Thriller - Dennis Quaid - 6/10

Not bad, seen worse and have seen better the only critical bit for me was Dennis Quaid as the villain, Quaid just did not seem the villain type in this film and if they had chosen someone like Jack Nicholson or thereabouts then I would have rated the film an 8.0/10

A young married couple buys a beautiful house on several acres of land, only to find out that the man they bought it from refuses to let go of the property.

Luca

Disney movie with my youngest daughter, streaming on Disney+ now.

Basically a movie about sea monsters who live in an Italian fishing port, when they leave the sea they turn human but turn back the moment water touches any body part.

The story follows two boy monsters who dream of walk with the humans and love all things human. They are desperate to win a local race in order to win prize money to buy themselves a Vespa so that they can travel the world.

The whole film is based around acceptance and in true Disney fashion it delivers. It also has the usual tear jerking ending.

Just watched the trailer and it looks good, just sent a text message to the daughter as wee Kaiden would like anything like that, he loved 'Find Nemo'. :ay:
