The Artful Dodger
London is a mixed bag, the core 'real London' is mainly Labour, aside from the areas dominated by the supremely wealthy but then a lot of the 'greater London' areas have Tory tendencies. I'm just making the point that there are areas in the South seeing similar rises, Johnsnon's own constituency for example but they won't be effected. They're happy to meddle with the lives of the Northern cities because they are unlikely to ever win a seat there. I also won't ever really forgive London for voting for Johnson as Mayor. If they believe lockdown is necessary then it should be a national one, not one which decimates certain areas completely. Local lockdowns do not work and in fact transmission has gone up in a lot of areas.

Affluence mainly tbh, not really much to do with greater London in it self as a lot of areas in greater London like Hayes, Ealing, Harrow, Wealdstone, Feltham, Hounslow, Brentford, Enfield, Illford, Dagenham, Croydon etc voted Labour and are by and large known as run down/working class (not Ealing itself but the borough in general) White flight comes into account too, Ruislip for example is essentially a BTEC Essex. Thing is nowadays what used to be white flight areas are now as diverse as any area in London. Edited October 8, 2020 by Danny
Bluewolf
I don't know about where you are living but mask wearing is so hit and miss round here now, It has actually gone backwards and less people are wearing them than they were a month ago except in shops where they won't get served unless they do obviously.. Just seen untold mums picking their kids up from school and did not see any of them wearing a mask, not one! Would have thought they would as they are all gathered together outside chatting waiting for the kids..

As much as it would be common sense to do so, it's not compulsory to wear a mask outdoors yet so they're probably just taking advantage of that. Yea, don't get me wrong I wouldn't expect people to wear them every single time they go out but when gathering together in a big group you might think people would exercise a little caution.. I don't have to wear a mask if I don't want to with me having asthma & COPD but I still wear one inside shops but I make sure my mouth is covered in case I cough I make sure my nostrils are free with my conditions as it does restrict my breathing a bit. Our son is a taxi driver so he has been working non-stop since doing 13-hour shifts with breaks in-between because the pubs are now closing up here for 2 weeks and that will hit him for six, he is pleased he is staying with us atm as we don't ask him for any digs money and we said not to worry trying to pay us food/gas/electric money as he has his taxi licence, petrol etc to worry about. I have given him some dosh and told him to get some lagers for tonight and we told him to have a wee break from the taxi bit as he has wee Alexader staying the weekend so it will be a wine/lager night with our son & grandson for tonight. I wouldn't expect people with genuine medical conditions to be wearing one and they should be the rare exception to the rule but if you can make the effort to wear one those without conditions have no excuses really... Administrator Stan Posted October 11, 2020 Administrator Share Posted October 11, 2020 Margaret Ferrier can fuck off now as well. Should have done last week. Refusing to resign and now she's saying it was 'just a blip' and covid makes you 'act out of character'. Sturgeon should just sack her. Takes the piss now. Sometimes I might and forget to take my mask out with me but I always carry this card in my wallet with my details (Dr's name & surgery etc) and I show it when getting on any form of public transport or if I have an exemption due to medical conditions. As I got older I stopped carrying around my id with me, they were getting a bit heavy to lug around the place.. She's now an independent MP rather than a member of the SNP. Only the electorate have the power to actually make her not an MP. It isn't a straightforward process for an MP to resign either and very rarely happens for reasons besides health. She should resign though for sure. Administrator Stan Posted October 11, 2020 Administrator Share Posted October 11, 2020 Six boroughs in Liverpool to be told to shut their pubs and other social gathering areas (casinos, gyms, bars, social clubs) from 5pm on Wednesday for a month. Ridiculous that it's just Liverpool being told to do this. Nottingham has a seriously high rate of infection per 100k people yet has faced no lockdown restrictions at all. It's no wonder the government are being labelled as discriminatory and unfair. Jenrick this morning on Andrew Marr's show was a joke. The Artful Dodger
If Liverpool is singled out alone then I'd hope for some sort of mass disobedience, pubs should just stay open anyway, how would the police shut them all? There is no evidence local lockdowns work at all and Liverpool is being used as a guinea pig.

The Artful Dodger
Interestingly the WHO has now advised against lockdowns, saying they do more damage than good and don't do much, if anything, to control or stop the virus. https://www.news.com.au/world/coronavirus/global/coronavirus-who-backflips-on-virus-stance-by-condemning-lockdowns/news-story/f2188f2aebff1b7b291b297731c3da74
