montybhopa
I think the FIFA threat wouldn't have worked for Brazilian players bc half of them are playing for different countries anyways.
6666
Barcelona are a billion in debt. They needed this to happen. Will be interesting to see how these sanctimonious hypocrites find their way out of the hole they created.

If they are worried about debt, they should start by selling their deadwood and a few big players too. They have enough talent to hold onto CL places in the uncompetitive league like La Liga or if they are afraid of La Liga team, they should play in Ligue 1. Seve
Lol, the Spurs Chairman clearly didn't want to back down, a very grudging, 90% self justifying, apology "Chairman Daniel Levy said: “We regret the anxiety and upset caused by the ESL proposal. We felt it was important that our club participated in the development of a possible new structure that sought to better ensure financial fair play and financial sustainability whilst delivering significantly increased support for the wider football pyramid. “We believe that we should never stand still and that the sport should constantly review competitions and governance to ensure the game we all love continues to evolve and excite fans around the world. “We should like to thank all those supporters who presented their considered opinion"

Can't blame them bc on merit, Arsenal would not make it to CL for at least the next 10 years.

Might be wrong here, but seem to remember to have heard in German TV Atletico withdrew as well. That would mean the Super league were consisting of Real, Barcelona, Juventus and both Milanese clubs. Good luck with that.

Good riddance. I honestly wouldn’t care if I had to watch them again. There are far more interesting teams in Spain and Italy who deserve a chance. Dr. Gonzo
Suspended doesn't mean they won't try again, but with a different plan in place. At least this time, maybe clubs will know where football fans (or "legacy fans" for anyone out there who might speak dickhead) stand the next time they try something like this and think twice. Judging by the shite statements United, Liverpool and Spurs put out... I would not put it past any of them to try again.

Harry
I hope Florentino Perez is run out of football after this. This has been possibly the worst managed, most Ill conceived, poorly explained and marketed rollout of a new sporting product in history. As the chairman of the new stupid league, he has done such profound damage to the game.
Seve
Interesting to consider the societal differences involved The Spanish and Italian clubs were all in, being countries where the rich are allowed to get away with doing anything they like The English clubs run by Americans were all in, the owners being from a country where the free market generally rules and other societal stakeholders are often ignored The English clubs run by owners from countrys where the rich are allowed to get away with anything... except upset the government, were in, but then first out, once the authorities expressed their disaproval The German and French clubs didn't join and adopted a wait and see approach, being from rather socialist countries where they were unlikely to get away with such unilateral action And there was the one Dutch club, trying to hitch a ride on the money train in order to regain past glories, which have become increasingly unattainable under the current financial conditions

If I am not wrong, FIFA WC format from 2026 is going to be a shitshow where there will be three teams per group and a draw would lead to penalties, no offside and they would penalties like the penalty strokes in hockey where its basically one on one from the halfway of the pitch.
