I am shocked Chelsea haven't brought on Giroud. His record v Saints is outstanding and sometimes, it's those weird things that go in your favour.

Result on Tuchel really. Bizarre decisions all around.

I know, he has a great record against Southampton, but he's also the ideal player to bring on in this kind of situation. It appears that Tuchel has other ideas though. :S

I think Tuchel made a good choice of approach as a mid-season appointment. Every game so far his team has made a point of keeping loads of the ball, pinning teams back almost constantly, and then waiting for moments of quality, penalties, or set pieces to get one or two goals. It’s ultra low risk, and Chelsea has enough technical ability to make it work.

The problem is what happens against teams who specialise in giving up loads of possession, sitting narrow, and then playing out quickly through waves of pressure.

2 much needed points dropped.

These next run of games will make it or break it for Tuchel. 7 very winnable games under him so far and we've seen zero improvement on our approach in the final third. We now have Atletico, United, Liverpool, Everton, Leeds, and Atletico again. It's not looking good.

Sky just used the phrase "stop the rot" 3 times, by 3 separate people in the space of a minute. Cliche reporting

Joe Cole on BT said Chelsea are better than Atletico xDxD

Also, a lot of focus on Chelsea (guilty, as well) but two Southampton players stood out - Salisu and Djenepo.

Salisu was commanding at the back and quite composed, too. Had to deal with various challenges throughout the game and he dealt with each of them fairly comfortably. Looks like a decent purchase from Southampton. (I expect Liverpool to buy him at some point...).

Djenepo took a battering from a few challenges but still got stuck in pretty much everywhere. At times seemed to be playing on the wing but then also centrally up against Kante. Seemed like he was Southampton's equivalent of a ball-winner.

Both players made it difficult for Chelsea. I don't think it was all Chelsea being out of ideas. Southampton's defensive display due to those 2 players had a big hand in it, too.

I don't think we were that bad and agree very much with Hoddle during the commentary, our build-up and approach play was decent and we got into some good positions but just lacked quality. We're really lacking a flair and creative player on form, it's imperative we get the likes of Ziyech and Pulisic back on track and maybe experiment with Hudson-Odoi more further forward. I spent a lot of the game missing Hazard to be honest with you.

The thing is Ziyech and Pulisic look far from the players they're capable of being and that's one of our biggest problems at the moment, we're missing a Hazard type player, someone with quality and end product in the final third.

What was that performance by Ziyech when he came on by the way? It's players like that we need to start stepping up, he came on, lost the ball 3-4 times and that was it. The players can't hide behind the manager now, now there's an experienced coach, new chances, new ideas, new system, the players either start performing or not, no excuses.
