Looked better than Upamecano that's for sure.

He'll either be one of the best CBs in the league or another Eric Bailly. Thinking the former.

Hey, leave Eric alone.

To be fair he's up and down and even when he is fit enough to be up and down its only usually about four games before he's injured again.

Bailly is a fantastic player on his day but then loses his mind and does something out of the blue and wild.

I think he will leave United this summer as he has actually played well when given a chance but Ole always brings Lindelof back in.

Which is my point. Quality wise, Bailly could be one of the best CBs in the league. Far too injury prone to accomplish that.

Konate seems to have gotten rid of his reoccurring hip injury so we will wait and see.

Red Bull have a few top young defenders don't they, I know we battered them at home but they played well at their place.

As for Bailly, potential to be brilliant but has too many rushes of blood.

'fantastic' is a bit of a stretch.

Especially with someone who does something wild or clumsy...

He's been brilliant at times, some his last ditch blocks have been game winners.

So yeah, I stick by fantastic at times.

he reminds me a bit of martin skittles that played for liverpool. the guy would look world class for 80mins of a game but for 10 mins he would do crazy stuff where you thought where did that shit come from.

Konate is one of the best up and coming defenders, but he has been seriously injury prone in his young career. That would be a big concern for me if I was a Liverpool fan, especially after having paid more than £30 million for him.

The counter argument would be that he wouldn't need to make those tackles if his positioning wasn't so poor in the first place.

This is like AWB for me. You’ve already made a tactical error with your positioning by the time you’re making last ditch tackles.

Which is exactly the point Souness made regarding AWB, he said last season that the reason he wins so many of those tackles is because of his poor positioning in the first place.

This LFC legacy fan is particularly worried about what adding another injury prone player to our already pretty injury prone side... in the position where we've got some very, very injury prone players as starters.

I think we'll probably be selling Phillips at the end of the season. And I don't really know how I feel about keeping Kabak - he's had some good games, he's had some bad games, it's hard to judge him because he's not really come into a functional team. He's come into a team that's been slowly unraveling ever since the 3rd or 4th week of the season. I'm not sure if Ben Davies is real or not - will need to see proof of his existence before I believe that. And Rhys Williams I don't think has a future at the club (maybe harsh considering how young he is - but he looks like a player that doesn't belong anywhere near the top flight).

So in terms of CBs where I think we can rely on the health of the player... I feel like this signing does not really address that at all.

Kabak is a pointless 18m spend. Just keep Phillips as 4th choice. I’m saying 4th over Matip as it’ll no doubt be minutes after playing his comeback match that Matip will end up injured again.

Hearing a lot of good things about this lad, and I trust our recruitment team. The injuries are a little bit of a worry, hopefully they aren’t going to be recurring issues.

Matip playing 10-15 games as fourth choice would be fine. If Phillips stays, he could end up playing just two domestic cup games next season, depending how far Liverpool progress. Is that really much of a reward for his efforts this season?

It’s definitely not, no. For his own sake I hope he pushes for a move away once this new lad comes in. Or maybe Klopp sees him as the man to play those 10-15 games instead of Matip?

I would hope not and I doubt that would be the case

Glad to hear we aren't signing Kabak permanently. Not that he was terrible - I just don't think he overall offered a whole lot to us in terms of quality. I still wonder if Davies is really worse than him or if he just had an awful time with staying fit after joining us. Because I can't imagine he'd have been that much worse...

Because we did sign Davies permanently... so I imagine he's staying here longer than Phillips. But who knows, seemed like a bit of a desperate move... and tbf we were desperate.
