Villa vs Brighton Mark 'Villa for the loss' Lawrenson on BBC website predicting Stevie G to get off to a winning start.. 😀 For me, it's a tough start. And I'd take a draw to stop the rot.

A few days in from the Gerrard announcement, I can't help but feel Benitez or Ranieri may actually have been the best options for Villa, but they were already taken. And I'm sure Gerrard will get time & support from day 1.

Burnley vs Palace I really hope Burnley drop this season. Nothing personal, but doing relatively quite well for so long with stars of Villa's worst ever Premier League side, Matt Lowton & Ashley Westwood, is just taking the cheesey wotsits.

Newcastle vs Brentford could be a huge season turning match.

Norwich vs Southampton I do hope Dean Smith does well. Long term, not well enough to get ahead of Villa. But the situation around him being axed was harsh. Certainly only Villa & Gerrard can end up looking foolish, but perhaps also the only ones that can end up looking like a real deal at some near future time.

Watford vs Man United  could be 4 or 5 either direction. Just when I think I understand either of these, they shock me in some way.

Wolves vs West Ham should be quite close. Could depend if West Ham take their foot of the accelerator.

Not sure what to make of Burnley. They've shown with Brentford and Chelsea they're going to be a difficult team to beat.

As bizarre as it sounds given this is the best football we've played in my lifetime at this level but I'd fancy a Roy Hodgson team more than this one to out-turgid them.

Maxwell Cornet looks like he only needs half a chance too.

How on earth has McTominay not been sent off for that?

I think he slipped and lost his balance and fell into him.  A penalty yes , but a sending off would of been harsh.

Why is that a retake?  Shouldn't it had been a save and an offside on the rebound?

Understand now, they were behind the ball, but harsh to reward Watford for the encroachment.

But they haven't been rewarded because the goal was chalked off?

Can't have it both ways.

Sounds like McTominay lucky to stay on the pitch. Again.

The way this Palace transition has worked from Roy Ball in such a short time frame is surreal. Especially when you consider how much time we wasted finding a successor. Honestly think we're a mainstay for another 5+ years.

You would hope.

There has to be a point where enough is enough, clearly he is struggling to get the best out of this team and I can't see United just sitting back and allowing the club to slide further away from the top... Giving the bloke a chance I can understand but they are just not seeing a return on their investment this season... even I thought they would be challenging
