Eh he's been excellent, set up plenty of chances and won every header pretty much.

He's been good don't get me wrong, I'm just pointing out he didn't do a whole lot besides the goals. He's been good in the air but he slowed down a few counter attacks.

Kind of hard to judge him given how dominant Spain has been.

Portugal probably could have won that if Quaresma wasn't an overrated fanny and he didn't waste that moment in the box.

Well, not the best result for Iran. But that was one hell of a match, and obviously the best match of the tournament so far (because the others have been shite lol).

I think if you look at their games Quaresma comes on and is a great impact sub. What he did today was a bit out of character really but in all honesty they looked like they weren't going to come back after the Nacho goal and they did. Great game and so many more to look forward to now.

Yeah, Iran wanted anything but a draw. If Iran got a point against either Portugal or Spain they were likely through, but now that one of the 2 would sit at 2 points with that, Iran will have to get points against both most likely.

What a fucking game that was. That s what the World Cup needs to be. None of this 48 teams bullshit which will just be one good team (if that) in each group and no matches like this until the quarter finals.

Portugal are no better than the Italian or Dutch teams that didn't qualify without Ronaldo. He always just finds a way even if he isn't the player he used to be outside the box though it's still worth noting he has quick feet enough to win the penalty and free kick that led to two of his goals.

Spain on the other hand look absolutely quality on the ball and I expect them to go far in this tournament regardless of the drama surrounding their manager.

Haha so much rattleage about my comment over Cristiano. 10/10 performance from him because he did as he was told with much worse service, but I didn't see him create that many chances as some are mentioning. It wasn't a "highlight reel" performance.

I don't really like him, but that was one of the most complete games I've ever seen from an individual. 11/10 in every sense of the phrase.

I watch all my games from a tactical point of view thank you very much.

Brian is tslking our of his rear but you are going way overboard with that statement.

Yeah I don't understand the criticism of him here @Blue "10/10 performance for doing as he's told" - so I'm assuming following this means he followed his tactical instructions to a tee - "with much worse service" - so on a team much worse than Real Madrid.

So he's done his job well, on a worse team. He was basically perfect in his role & was a big part of why Portugal looked so dangerous on the counterattacks. Yet by being pretty much perfect... he's somehow overrated? Sorry, but that's fucking nonsense.

I've seen better from Ronaldo. Maybe not in a World Cup (since 2006 anyways) but like I said it was hard to judge because of Spain's dominance. Maybe I am being harsh.

Brian thinks too broadly. He knows Ronaldo can dribble up the flank and score a goal; so is disappointed when he doesn't od that. He gets caught on the bigger picture. When he criticises Ronaldo for being 'limited' or 'finished' he isn't saying he is bad, he is saying that he isn't doing verything Ronaldo can do and that he doesn't approach the game in the same manner as he used to. I think he is clumsy with his explanations but I don't think Brian thinks poorly of Ronaldo at all.

Brian is a smart lad but he is emotional and defensive; that is why he never backs down.

The Portugal side in general is a quality team (when used appropriately).

They won Euro 2016 with Ronaldo on the bench after all.

I thought they were as quality as that Greek side that won the Euro. I don't think they were particularly good, but they were very organised and effective at taking chances when it really mattered. That final against France in 2016 was so brutally painful as a neutral & that's because of how Portugal played.

But then if they play like they did today, they're not going to be as dull to watch - but they might not be as effective. Granted, this time they were up against an excellent Spain & I'm sure Portugal will absolutely demolish Iran & Morocco - who both gave a pretty poor account of themselves earlier.

I get that... but he's just a different player now that he's older. He's done really well to adapt to still be a top level player, despite not being the same great player he once was. Not a lot of players would be able to reinvent themselves this late in their careers.
