French Election; Macron Defeats Le Pen

So BBC News have just pointed out that Emmanuel Macron is married to his former drama teacher at school who is 24 years older than him. He's very much a pro-EU politican and is being backed by the rebuffed major parties against Le Pen. Doesn't surprise me as not many people are going to follow a party so far-right as to underline the Holocaust as a minor detail and who don't guarantee security within the country. The implications of either winning could have some quite profound implications on trade and our relations.

That was Jean-Marie Le Pen that father of Marine. The latter kicked the former out of the party.

It's been going on all day. Various evacuations and security measures, its France and it's a warning to us all.

Macron will win Le Pen will get an outright majority first round 2022 as a direct result of this Nan fucker being more of the same.

Marine Le Pen will be too soft of a solution by that time.

  • The title was changed to French Election; Macron Defeats Le Pen

Hopefully Macron finds a way to relieve the economic pressures on French people either hunting for jobs in a constricted market or seeing their real wages getting stretched further, before the situation gets desperate enough for fascists like Le Pen to win people over by distracting them with identity politics.

If not, hopefully a proper leftist alternative has time to develop, rather than just Melenchon's nonsense.

As I've suggested on here before, these right wing nationalist solutions to Islamism do not come with patience, caution or realism attached. That suggests it would be a slippery slope further and further right with every attack, therefore bullet dodged with Le Pen15 losing.

The next election will be Macron versus a Socialist/communist/far left candidate. Fully anticipate France to be brought to a complete stand still by trade unions in the coming years.

Macron is unlikely to do worse than Hollande when it comes to the headline figures in the economy that are used to make snap political assessments unless something goes bang out of his control.

In terms of Brexit, now this election is out of the way the Soviet style posturing can be dropped. Macron is firmly of the "I don't know how to generate wealth but I do know how to steal it" neoliberal laziness, so that could play out badly for the UK.

Eh, neither are my cup of tea. I don't know enough about the immigration and assimilation issues in France to give an opinion on Le Penn v Macron.  If I were French I'd cut my nose to spite the EU and vote Le Penn.

Besides I'm a firm believe that Islam isn't the issue, it's 'third-world culture'. You're going to get horrible issues from a Christian nation like the Conga as well an Islamic nation like Syria.

It's not an Islam issue. Go to any mosque and ask what they think, and they will tell you they think the lowest of ISIS. I have been to two different Mosques here in Atlanta to just ask questions (and I'm learning Arabic), and they both said they same.

Well, to a degree it is. Look at how many Islamic countries have third-world cultures and shitty societies. There are 161 million people in Bangladesh and look at it's issues. I don't give a shit about western Muslims as long as they aren't forcing people to wear a hijab or burqa or engaging in other weird shit, the same applies to Hassidic Jews (particularly in New York) and Christians. The problem is that western Muslims are by far the minority.

I see what you mean.

I have to work with some Egyptian Muslims, and they seem pretty Westernized if I'm to be honest.

That sounds about fine, and present a valid and real issue, but the analogy works better if those fellas from the Conga[sic] have an echo-chamber of bigoted views, as well as resistance to cultural assimilation, promoted and financed worldwide by, I don't know, the Oil-rich Royal House of Wakanda, at their disposal.

Yes and no, FGM for example is a cultural thing. Islam has its own specific problems, a lot of which stem from Sharia.

You think it's that bad?

Yes, but I can't really care. France picked their poison so now they drink it.

Not that I am a big fan of Le Pen, mind. The general problem with these so-called "national populists" is that they still operate on a level of "Islam is a problem because it is incompatible with our hyper-liberal worldview", not realising that liberalism in all its facets (cultural AND economic) is the far bigger problem. Or they do realise it, but dare not bring it up because it would be a PR disaster in any Western country to do so.

Anyway, that is a whole other story and I do not want to turn this into a gigantic text wall. Bottom line is that I cannot cheer or weep for what a Western-European vassal state does at the voting booth at this point, because it does not matter a damn thing.
