  3. What a great read. I think so many factors are obscure to the big decision makers when it comes to taking risk. They were worried that their film business was at risk and fair play on that but I think Kodak was making so much money that they could have taken that risk. The other impeding factor would have been the commercial viability of that tech to the common person because if you put it out then you have to maintain it and maybe the surrounding tech was not ready. Still, missed opportunity and they may have been in a very different position today because of it.

  4. Also while we're on Kodak, this is a very interesting read: https://www.businessinsider.com/this-man-invented-the-digital-camera-in-1975-and-his-bosses-at-kodak-never-let-it-see-the-light-of-day-2015-8 Kodak employee Steven Sasson was the first one to invent a digital camera... in 1975. They developed it further into what became the first ever DSLR in 1989, only for Kodak to reject it because they were afraid it would affect their film sales negatively. He started with this prototype in 1975: ...and turned it into this in 1989: It had a 1.2 megapixel sensor, and used image compression and memory cards. Just imagine if the bosses at Kodak had embraced the idea and new technology at that time...instead of getting into the market way too late and bankrupting in 2012. A lot of missed opportunities there. @Mel81x

  7. Interesting. Well, not only did you claim Lampard wouldn't do better than Sarri, (IE make top 4) you actually stated the potential difficulty Lampard had in taking the Chelsea job given the circumstances. So it's a bit amusing you now prefer to discredit Lampard's accomplishment in what you previously called as a 'difficult and risky circumstance'. What's wrong with Welbeck? He was an impact player when he came off the bench? Giroud isn't getting any younger either. We have the worse defence out of the top 10 clubs in the league, statistically the worse GK out of the top 5 European leagues, yet have finished in the Top 4 and also stayed in the Top 4 since October with a striker you deem not good enough. On top of that, an FA Cup final. Right. You would now rather discredit the accomplishments of a manager that was in a situation you yourself claimed to be a difficult one. Beyond a tune change.

  8. This is pretty much why I hate it when you have one product in a space catering to a community that has a requirement for integration into their workflows. Sure, the example states a minuscule difference in acquisition speeds but the kicker is the price and this is where Canon have never really backed down. Granted they've let third parties do most of that legwork for them by building addons and products which they can then use with their core base but at the end of the day this is good for the consumer. I can't wait to see what the other quiet competitor in this space Nikon does now.

  9. Yeah, they will have to, especially considering that Sony already has the technology on both their higher range and mid range cameras; A6400 for example costs less than a 1000€, and while it's not a full frame camera like R5/R6 and most of the specs are understandably way behind the new Canon models, it still boasts a better AF acquisition speed which is very impressive (0.02s compared to Canon's 0.05)... That's why I love competition, it makes high end technological innovations accessible and affordable for a regular user pretty soon after they hit the market...

  10. Bringing Mars back to Earth The US and European space agencies are about to begin an audacious effort to bring samples of Martian rock and soil back to Earth. It will involve two robotic rovers to collect the best specimens, and an elaborate delivery system to get this material home. Scientists hope to then learn more about whether life has ever existed on the Red Planet by studying the samples using techniques that are only available in Earth laboratories. A new rover built by Nasa and named Perseverance will land on Mars in February 2021 using the "sky crane" method. A giant parachute and rocket motors will slow the mission's descent before the rover is lowered to the surface using cables. Perseverance - a six-wheeled robotic machine with 23 cameras and a drill - will seek signs of ancient life in a large crater Jezero. It will collect rock and soil samples that look like they may have been altered by contact with microorganisms. The rover will store its samples in metal canisters - but leave them behind on the Martian surface to continue its mission. Perseverance's plutonium-based power supply could keep the rover trundling around Mars for 10 years or more. Later this decade - after 2026 - a second, smaller rover, to be built by the European Space Agency (Esa), will arrive on Mars. This "fetch rover" will travel across the surface picking up the sample canisters left behind by Perseverance. The canisters will be loaded into a protective container and placed into a small rocket - the Mars Ascent Vehicle or MAV. This will blast into the sky, placing the container into orbit around Mars. The sample container will be met in orbit and caught by a European satellite. This "return orbiter" will act like a cargo ship, bringing the precious rock and soil specimens back to Earth. We don't expect the satellite to arrive home until at least 2031, by which time the sample container will have been packaged in a heavily protected capsule, to be sent into Earth's atmosphere to land in North America. Scientists will then study the rocks and soil using advanced techniques, including some that have yet to be invented because there should be enough material to investigate for decades ahead. The samples will shed light on Mars' history and whether it has ever supported microbial lifeforms. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-53553623

  11. I have been having some really weird dreams lately... don't know what's going on in my head I really don't... Last night I was in this big carpeted hall and me and this woman were spanking each other with them big long empty postal tubes and the first one to give in was the loser... She was on a stool bent over wearing a short skirt and stockings and I was taking ages to take my go because the view was so good and if I hit her too hard she told me to be quiet as I would wake her kids up... I need help..

  15. Jody Morris, Lampard's current number two, a few years ago: "You've got to have a manager that, first and foremost, wants to look," he told Sky Sports. "We've had managers at Chelsea where they'd be 50 yards away, there'd be a Champions League U19s game going on, and the manager's sat in his office, rather than coming out to watch. It's very disheartening. "It's not my place to go over there and start talking to managers, but some managers aren't interested - they don't care about youth. They judge the first team and want to get their own players in. "The thing about Chelsea is I don't think there's an academy in this country that's better, but it doesn't look like that on paper because of the amount of players who are not playing in the first team. "The players are good enough, most definitely, but the managers are not, for one, aware of them. It's alright someone going in and talking up a player and saying 'this player's got European Player of the Year in an U19 tournament, won the World Cup, and is one of the best players at his age group' - if they don't see him, physically, that doesn't get you him. "You need to see it - Claudio Ranieri's point of playing John Terry was the fact that he went to watch him. He saw him, said 'right, he's playing for me' - and in. There's nothing better than seeing players in the flesh. It's alright people talking them up but you have to see it in the flesh."

  16. Same. Said at the start of the season it'll be a blessing in disguise their transfer ban came in to place as it meant youngsters - Mount, James, Hudson-Odoi, Gilmour, Tomori (could/should have played more), Abraham - had a chance to come in and play more regularly. He's done well and should be a signal to other clubs you don't always have to spend money (this may go out the window with how much they've just spent on Havertz, Ziyech and Werner though ).
