Inter linked Edinson Cavani’s move to Portuguese side Benfica is off due to the Uruguayan’s excessive wage demands, according to a report from Portuguese media outlet A Bola recently.

The report details how the 33-year-old Uruguayan striker, who is currently a free agent after his contract expired with Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last month, was in talks with Benfica over a possible move, but the Portuguese club decided to end negotiations early due to his high wage demands. (Sempreinter)Arrow.png.c8801b5bc81c831682f6986a1abbe5bb.png

If his wage demands are that high, I can't see him going to Leeds right after they've just come back to the league.

I don't know if I would want him.

Obviously been a class player in the past for sure. Better in front of goal than anything we currently have without doubt. But you need to be exceptionally fit to play under Bielsa.

At 33, I don't know if Cavani's hunger to do the basics required of him at our club will be as high. Could be a disaster for us with those wages too. I'm inclined to steer clear.

Sources from Uruguay confirming Cavani will be a Benfica player.

Benfica is building a great team. Wow.

Vertonghen, Waldschmidt and Everton Cebolinha were presented yesterday, now Cavani is coming.

Wow! Juat wow! If that´s true, this is huge for brazilian football.

Cavani at Grêmio is a great fit. He will instantly become an idol and he will be living near Uruguay. Makes sense, but I never thought Grêmio could pay his wages. I really hope it´s true.

Yea wages was exactly our problem it seems. We ended up signing a few expensive players who are also very wage demanding. I'm not mad about Cavani. maybe it's better this way. Hopefully we have players for the future.

We signed Cebolinha so they could sign Cavani, ahah.

Feels like Benfica could afford it, but they decided to invest in Darwin who is younger and has re-sale value. Isn´t it?

Grêmio recently sold Cebolinha and they could also make serious money with the sales of Pepê, Matheus Henrique and Jean Pyerre and if Cavani gives them a bit of a hometown discount due the proximity to the Uruguay, it could really happen.

Darwin seemed really down to earth and humble today in his presentation.  We really need a good forward so hopefully he lives up to expectations.

Cavani will score bucketloads in Brazil. He's still a top 3 South American forward in my eyes, and he's at his best now. Problem is he can't find a good fit.

The 2 best forwards in South America will be playing for clubs in Porto Alegre. Who'd thunk it? :D

Cavani to join Man Utd. Medical tomorrow

Cavani's brother finally found a club willing to pay the insane comission he was asking for. If I'm not wrong, he wanted 10 million euros.

The biggest myth in football is that there are free transfers. They are never free, as the Juventus case proves.

Looks great for them on paper but so did Falcao a few years back. I'm not sure he was the most important signing they could have made. There are surely more pressing issues.

Can't help but feel this is a panic move to appease the masses given how many targets they have missed out on, especially all the time wasting on Sancho.

You'd have thought after last season, the way Solskjaer started to build a chemistry with a younger team that they had moved away from signing the players to 'plug a temporary gap' but the owners look to have resorted to type.

I think ballsing up the Haaland deal was a massive fuck up by them in retrospect thus proved by signing an ageing Cavani for a year or two just doesn't scream of a good strategy going forward.

This is out of the blue. Is this how desperate Utd have become?

It's not even an area they need to strengthen.

United is also close to signing another uruguayan, the 18-year old winger Facundo Pellistri, from Penarol, for a fee of 10 million dolars. This is a surprise since Lyon had a deal for Pellistri almost completed.

Maybe because Aouar is staying Lyon have pulled out of a deal for Pellistri.

I don't think it will appease many either.  United have spent so much time and energy trying for Sancho, or at least the fans have, that if we don't end up getting Sancho the window will be seen as a failure to many.   The frustration and the anger are growing as every team around us seems to have improved their teams.  Not that it will matter to the Glazers and Woodward, they are still profitting from the club.  Its going to be a long season if we don't bring in Sancho and at least another player.

I agree, it won't. What I meant to word was that it was an attempt.

Panic buy IMO unless Ole seems him as Maguire's new partner.

Smells just like Sanchez, Di Maria, Fellaini etc and is a definite Woodward/Glazer signing to give us more fans in Uruguay. Famous player, available on a free. If you think we wanted him, but tied him up 2 days before the window ends on a free (and he’s been available the whole summer), you need to go and fuck your own face. I genuinely hate this club.

Why do we even need a third left back? I just don’t get it. Embarrassing haggling over £8mill as well.
