Bundesliga boost as home fans allowed back for new season

Bundesliga fans will be allowed back into stadiums when the new season kicks off with champions Bayern Munich hosting Schalke on Friday.

Following a virtual meeting of the federal states' chancelleries on Tuesday, home fans will be allowed back in stadiums, with no away fans present, no alcohol allowed and a ban on standing.

The German Football League (DFL) will allow 20% of capacity to be allowed in. However, if a 7-day coronavirus case average in a home city is above 35 per 100,000, a game must be played without spectators in attendance.

The league agreed on a framework for the return of fans in August, with contract tracing regulations in place. Those attending matches will need to supply contact details in case of a new infections during the COVID-19 crisis. Every club has worked on location-specific hygiene concepts which includes prevention measures inside the stadium and on the way to the grounds. They must be approved by local health authorities before supporters are allowed back.
In the German Cup on Monday, more than 10,000 supporters attended Dynamo Dresden's 4-1 win over Hamburger SV in the state of Saxony, while 300 were allowed back in when third-league club MSV Duisburg lost 5-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund.
Sources have told ESPN that Dortmund's famed Ultras will not return to matches at present. Borussia Monchengladbach Ultras, meanwhile, released a statement that said while they understood the need to partially bring back fans, "visiting a stadium under that hygiene protocol has nothing even remotely to do with what we perceive as fan culture."

The Bundesliga resumed on May 16 last season, becoming the first major football league to return amid the pandemic.

I like the 35/10K clause it just makes it better for everyone and teams get their fans back in stadiums. Well done Germany.

Progress but still a largely watered down experience and for me it's just over the top. Don't get me started on England.

As as season ticket holder, I'm curious to see what news I'll receive in the next few days.

What's the procedure at Fortuna for it? Werder are holding a draw and then informing the losers only xD

Only read this today. The approximately 11k would fit with the number of season ticket holders, but they're also allowing some of the sponsors associates in. So maybe 1-2k will only go to sponsor related people. We'll see.

Ah, not bad. There's 8500 fans allowed for our first match, and 10300 season ticket holders have entered the draw for it. Still decent.

Good for them if they can pull it off fairly safely..

Watching games over here without crowds really does make a difference to the whole atmosphere and even the few they had during our pre-season friendly at Brighton made a difference.. They were going to allow some for the actual League game but this rule of 6 probably scared them off the idea..

I'm glad our first match is an away game. It must be an organizational nightmare for those clubs that have a home game this weekend.

I'm jealous.

about no fans in the Bayern vs Schalke match? Ah, don't be, Schalke are likely to get a proper pounding.
