But also Champions League and was a massive benefit to Real in their several CL triumphs and has held that level and consistency for several years

Tapia has had a very good season by all accounts, it doesn't mean he automatically would make a world XI. Maybe Tapia will almost guarantee a spot in a World XI if he makes another step up and plays consistently well. It's a possibility...

I'd love to be biased and put Ndidi in because he's an absolute beast and one of the best DMs in the Premier League. Does he make a World XI? No. Because there are better players out there.

To end off, if Ndidi is one of the best DM's in the PL, surely he is capable of making a World XI, no?

That was my point all along. If we're doing a World XI with players from different continent as rules, you could balance it in their favour. Maybe not Tapia as I've given my reasons for having him, but Ndidi is comfortably the best African CDM I think.

Well it kind of depends on what formation we’re going with tbh.

But we’ve got Messi & Neymar up top + Casamiro/Fabinho at DM. We should probably pick one of those - but I think any of those is a fine choice.

But that had us out of South Americans - but plenty of positions open for our 3 Europeans

Let’s do GK next?

Team needs to have Son I would like to think. Is there any room?

Well he's Asia's best player, so if the rules are to select players from different continents, then Son surely has to be in the team.

Also, I'll nominate Winston Reid for Oceania's rep. I'll leave the rest to everyone else as I don't want to hog everything.

Honestly, when we're doing a best World XI, the player from Oceania should be the position shoehorned in, where he does the least harm doesn't need to be the best footballer from Oceania as they're are all mediocre including the best of them.

I think Reid is a harmless CB though. Elite? Definitely not. But as a CB I think he's always been fair enough. He's decent at what he does. If you get him a really good CB partner he's a good option.

Does Oceania need a rep?

I thought the rule was just max 3 European and 3 SA.

So the rest could be from Africa and Asia and North America?

No one from Oceania stands out (not xenophobic please don't hurt me)

Fair enough if so! I might have missed it.

Son, Davies from Asia and North America should do it.

Mahrez is probably the best African player now, with Salah and Mane in poor form.

Mahrez still wouldn't get into a World XI for me, neither would Son and Davies.

Davies would get in mine but that's not the point. It's for the sake of being an actual World XI and not just players from Europe and South America.

Lads, lot's of bickering going on here as it's all subjective.

All I'd say is, in order to meet the criteria which is the most important thing, this would be the base of the team for me and then fill up the last spots.

(Also remember, Gonzo said you play players where they actually play. E.G Lionel Messi is not a central striker.)

These are the must picks for me who play in their desired position.

North America/Canada - Alphonso Davies

Asia - Son

Africa - Koulibaly

South America - Messi

Europe - De Bruyne

-------------------- Blank

Blank - Koulibaly - Blank - Davies

---------- KDB - Blank - Blank

---------- Messi - Blank - Son

Now, having read the thread, I'd personally use the following to fill three more spots.

Keylor Navas GK, Casemiro DM and Lewandowski as your main forward.

-------------------- Navas

Blank - Koulibaly - Blank - Davies

--------- KDB - Casemiro - Blank

 ----- Messi - Lewandowski - Son

That leaves one South American, One European and 3 Blanks left to fill a RB, CB and MID.

That's how I see it anyway.

Kimmich as the other midfielder?

I don't know how well he's done without Godin next to him but maybe Jose Gimenez for the other CB spot?
