Predictions - Azerbaijan Grand Prix

HAPPY WELL DONE BAKU WEEK!

Below are your predictions for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The deadline for predictions is the start of qualifying on Saturday! You have until then to submit and amend your predictions. @RandoEFC @Tommy @Coma @Stan @nudge @OrangeKhrush @MUFC @DeadLinesman @Whiskey @JoshBRFC.

Pole Position - Who will do the fastest lap in Q3?

The Podium - Who will finish the race in 1st, 2nd and 3rd?

Random Driver - Guess the finishing position of this week's random driver, Lance Stroll.

Bonus Question - Baku has been a bit of a red flag fest in the past, so here's a bonus question which could well have more than one correct answer. Name one driver who will cause a red flag at some point by stopping on track, either through a crash or a mechanical failure. The red flag can be in any session and any correct driver will score you 5 points, including any incident involving multiple cars stopped on track if you name one of the drivers. If you're feeling brave, you can predict no red flags caused by stopped cars all weekend, which will score 10 points if it comes off.

Good luck!

So I've just noticed that due to the nature of the bonus question, I really should have set the deadline before Practice for this week. But it's short notice and it sort of messes things up. So I'm amending the bonus question to only include red flags in qualifying and the race. Apologies to those who have already predicted but I don't think it makes a massive difference, just makes it harder for everyone to get the points with Practice excluded. You can still also choose no red flag but as we're reducing the number of sessions and therefore increasing the likelihood of a clean weekend, that will be worth 5 points now instead of 10.

Just the number of red flags? No need to name a driver?

Results - Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Screen Shot 2022-06-12 at 13.47.48.png

A relatively low-scoring week overall and not much separating the best scores from the lowest.

  • Qualifying saw the usual 50/50ish split between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, with the Ferrari man coming out on top again, delivering 5 points on Saturday for @RandoEFC, @Tommy, @nudge and @DeadLinesman.
  • Most people correctly called Red Bull to turn the tide again on Sunday, with the exception of hardcore Ferrari loyalists @Tommy and @nudge, who pick up 4 points each for backing both Red Bulls to finish on the rostrum but not in the correct spots.
  • @RandoEFC, @MUFC and @Whiskey went for identical VER-PER-LEC podium picks meaning that the Dutch-led Red Bull 1-2 scores them ten points. @Coma, @Stan and @OrangeKhrush pick up 7 points for the podium with Verstappen first and Perez down in 3rd. @DeadLinesman loses some of the ground he gained with his pole sitter pick as the only man to prefer Sainz over Perez for a top three finish.
  • Lance Stroll's late retirement from 14th place cost @RandoEFC and @OrangeKhrush five further points each. While Stroll was technically classified in 16th place having completed over 90% of the race distance, I'm awarding the points to @nudge and @Whiskey who predicted his DNF.
  • Nobody scored any points for the bonus question with the only red flag throughout qualifying and the race coming as a result of Lance Stroll's crash(es). @RandoEFC's gamble on 0 red flags didn't pay off, and it came as a surprise that nobody else picked the ailing Aston Martin driver as the one to commit the crime.

What it means for the standings:

Screen Shot 2022-06-12 at 13.48.07.png

With just 8 points separating the highest and lowest scores, there is very little movement. @Whiskey is the only one to move up a place in the standings with the joint-top score this week, overtaking @Coma for 6th place. The other top scorer for the week, @RandoEFC, goes joint third with @MUFC while the rest of the top three largely cancelling each other out. @DeadLinesman's fifth double-figure points haul of the season makes him the first to break 100 points, while a healthy 14 points for @nudge means that the top five are now separated by just 12 points overall.
