Rick
So with the rumblings of no major signings in the upcoming window, I was wondering what everybody’s take is on the situation? I have made no secret of the fact that I think it’s a mistake. Regardless of the situation with Covid, we simply have to be making some serious additions to this squad. Yes, I can appreciate Coronavirus has impacted spending, but I look over at Chelsea who have spend a healthy sum on Werner and are tipped to spend even more. That is a club that you can compare our situation to; they had two windows where they couldn’t sign anybody so yeah they were able to save up some cash to spend now.....but haven’t we done the same exact thing? Nobody last summer apart from Van DeBerg (1m) and Adrian on a Free and then in January we got Minamino for peanuts. So basically, not much more than Chelsea, and considering some of the wages they pay, it probably evens out in the long term. Add to that they fact we made two champions league finals in a row, won one, and came second in the premier league. All this is more than Chelsea have done, and their revenues and profit margins aren’t comparable. Yes, we are developing the stadium & the training ground, but we really can’t let those be detrimental to the current squad. This team is the best Liverpool team in my lifetime, and we should be capitalising on that by adding quality and keeping it fresh. I’m not happy at all with Origi & Shaqiri being our back ups in attack, Origi has scored some massive goals for us but he is so inconsistent and just can’t be relied on most of the time. Minamino could become very good for us, and Rhian Brewster has done well on loan at Swansea but you can’t hang your hat on them. I don’t want this team burning out because too much is constantly expected of them, they have done amazing for us so far and I have no doubt they can all continue to play at an elite level for another couple of years but history shows that those who stay still for too long will get left behind. I’m not expecting 5/6 new signings for the squad, in fact I’d be very happy with an elite midfielder and another first 11 quality attacker. I’m just frustrasted at the idea of us not taking advantage of how well Klopp has done, give the man more, let him build a dynasty here. LFCMike
Chelsea received over £100m for Hazard last summer didn't they? Not really comparable situation at all. The club since Klopp came in should have earned our trust whatever they do. From waiting for Van Dijk when we were all calling for them to sign 'anyone' to not signing anyone major last summer and subsequently running away with the league. They've just kept on proving us wrong

Do you think he is reliable enough if we get a long term injury?

I agree a lot with what you're saying especially about not overlooking places we need improvement/backups when our starting XI isn't fit as we saw with the game against Everton. Klopp made no secret about him wanting Timo and while that gone the way it has now the bigger problem isn't just going and getting someone because Klopp wants to be able to get the players he wants so that he can integrate them into the system. Its not Origi and Shaqiri that worry me more than it does Fabinho who was having an excellent run till he got derailed and the same goes for Matip as well. If we want to bring in players we have to also ensure that the players I have just mentioned find their form again to have options as well for the rotations to have their maximum benefit. I don't think the club will make any signings in this window and will probably do some business in the winter transfer window but I don't think they've forgotten the need to strengthen its just about finding the right players to fit a system that takes time to integrate into. Splashing money on Kai might seem like something to do long-term but then you've got other avenues which need tending to as well like the statdium, etc. I'd like us to get some more players to compliment our attack system but that's so easy to say and equally hard to do because finding those players isnt going to be easy for scouts considering all thats going on in the world and the restrictions due to that as well. Origi probably hasn't made the most of his chances this season as he did last. Ideally you'd have someone better as back up. The front three start pretty much every game they're available for though. How many players with more ability would be willing to come in and sit in the bench? Especially if the African Nations Cup doesn't go ahead in January? You dont go for players just to fill the numbers, I'm walking about bringing in players who are going to push those front three for a spot. If we're working on the assumption that there's no AFCON next Jan/Feb then there's no need to be going out and spending over £50m on a player who won't make the first 11. You dont go for players just to fill the numbers, I'm walking about bringing in players who are going to push those front three for a spot. I think that was financially impossible for us after COVID. It seems like the club's biggest concern is keeping this side together and that means extending contracts. Don't get me wrong, I'd have liked Werner and I'm jealous Chelsea signed him - but Chelsea are also an oil club that's had a season where they weren't allowed to make transfers (so not really affected all that much by COVID) and had a direct need for a player like Werner. Whereas with us, Werner's a much less direct need. I agree we need to be bringing in squad players that can push the front 3 for a spot, ideally. But we'll be using our riches mostly to make sure that cunt clubs like Barca and Real Madrid keep their hands off our players, so really the biggest priority with new "depth" signings is just bringing in people that have more quality than the current players we rely on for depth. Also sounds like we're looking at a new left back to deputise for Robertson, because Milner's getting on and I think Klopp wants to conserve him for as long as possible, and it seems that the club doesn't rate Larouci highly enough to trust that he'll make the step up. West of West Ham
Clubs like Liverpool should have a conveyor belt of youth to come in and begin to push for chances, not just off the shelf proven players you buy in. Post COVID-19, we could see clubs having to rely heavily on their youth, which to me is a good thing. imagine another Gerrard coming through. I agree with you, although we have seen Trent make it into the first team pretty successfully and Curtis Jones is getting more and more first team chances. I’d love a new Gerrard coming through, but I’ve been waiting for the next Fowler for a very long time and I’d like to see that too.
West of West Ham
What’s it like winning the big one lads? It’s not something I’m ever likely to feel with two dodgy midget porn barons and a stuck up twat VC. The closest I’ve experienced to footballing Nirvana was the playoff wins. Celebrating all night, powder on tap, getting on with strangers and waking up with the most almighty hangover with a smile! It would have been topped in 2006 if not for Stevie G, so I need to live vicariously through Liverpool fans for 5 minutes before going back to reality. Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted June 26, 2020 Subscriber Share Posted June 26, 2020 Liverpool win Premier League title: Why a 30-year wait seemed unthinkable "Liverpool are champions again and it is difficult to see what will prevent the same words being written again this time next year." This is not the final verdict on Liverpool's relentless march to a first Premier League title. They are this reporter's words in the Liverpool Daily Post on Monday, 30 April 1990, two days after the Reds had secured their 18th league crown with a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers at Anfield. It was the last time they would celebrate such a success for three decades. No-one, least of all those in Anfield's cramped old press box, would realise how different life would soon be for the newly crowned champions, managed by Kenny Dalglish and boasting iconic figures such as Alan Hansen, Ian Rush and John Barnes. The crowd was a less-than-capacity 37,758. It was a routine occurrence and reporting on this sort of occasion had also become a matter of course for a very young chief football writer covering Everton and Liverpool. Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted June 29, 2020 Subscriber Share Posted June 29, 2020 Jurgen Klopp has done exactly the right thing, shows class, eloquence in a secondary language and a genuine understanding of Liverpool as a football club and a city. All that he's missing is Roy Hodgson's record on the pitch and he'd be an ideal manager for them.
LFCMike
Matip out for the rest of the season. Far too injury prone isn't he? Very good when fit. Ideally he'd be fourth choice and we upgrade Lovren. Maybe a good opportunity for Hoever to get a go in the next few weeks though
