If he wasn't being charged, no one would think anything of these incidents other than he's a bit rash. So the incidents by themselves don't really reveal too much. Will be interesting to see the evidence The FA have as that's probably much more damning.

That must be part of the evidence, surely? As in they're literally 4 of the offences referenced by the FA.

That can't be all there is though as it doesn't say much. If they have evidence of him betting that he'll get a yellow or anything like that, then it's a wrap.

It is pretty wrong,  if he is found guilty will he get 10 months with a suspended sentence like Tonali? or do the FA go softer and give like 6 with a suspended 6.

I think they'll go harder.

Seems worse than what Tonalli did, tbh. I think ultimately with his betting, he wasn't betting on Newcastle - plus he was already suspended so he's not playing in these matches he was betting on. With Paqueta he's alleged to have not only bet on West Ham matches, but bet that he would receive a yellow card in matches he received yellow cards.

That's not the most mindblowingly corrupt version of match fixing - in fact, it might be the least egregious match fixing possible. But it's still match fixing and if the FA has any sense (which, tbh, the jury is still out on that) they will want to crack down hard on any evidence of match fixing taking place to do all they can to remove any appearance of being okay with any form of corruption in English football.

Having said that, counting on these bodies of authority to understand that the appearance of corruption opens up more allegations of corruption an possibly be a lost cause. We've already seem PMGOL see no issue with allowing referees to work side gigs working for the owners of Man City and Newcastle - which presents a pretty obvious appearance of a conflict of interest that invites allegations of corruption to our top flight referees.

So hopefully the FA take this seriously, because a player betting on outcomes they can control in matches they play in should never be allowed. And cracking down on it now with something seeming relatively mild makes it clear to any players who might want to fix matches more seriously that they'll face a harsh punishment if/when they are caught.

I honestly wouldn't mind if they make an example of him and ban him from playing in England. Players betting on things they do in a match should simply never be tolerated and making a harsh example out of him serves as a big big warning to the rest of the players. This is probably too harsh of a punishment for West Ham though as his market value will plummet.

Deflecting from the shambles that has been VAR, officiating and 115 by getting players in the news for betting offences.

Fuck off you boring twats.

He does need charging to be fair. With or without this being in the news, nothing will get done about VAR and the officials and the 115 charges will get dealt with eventually but far too slowly.

I think he's in a world of pain if his appeal is rejected. A Lincoln City player got a five year ban for doing something similar in two FA Cup matches.

As it should be if you're betting on matches that you have a hand in the outcome of. How would anyone trust him again? Then again, he hasn't been proven guilty so have to wait and watch.

Remember though that he plays in the prem, so will likely get a lot more leniency.
