6666 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Parachutes is a great album. Haven't really paid attention to what they've been doing for over a decade though. Quote
Spike Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Pretentious and boring. I used to listen to them as a kid but it became evident they just wanted to do Radiohead’s The Bends with more piano. Their staying power beyond 2007 stuns me. Quote

Think their earlier work is certainly miles better than what is out now. Quote
Rick Posted September 27 Posted September 27 First couple of albums were good, then they started falling off very quickly. The stuff from the last decade is horrific. 1 Quote
Subscriber Coma+ Posted September 27 Subscriber Posted September 27 Early stuff good. Recent stuff bad. So that averages out to "indifferent" for me. It all fell apart for Martin when the pussy-scented candle came out. 1 Quote
Azeem Posted September 28 Posted September 28 I agree with the general consensus in this thread. Some good stuff but steady decline after that Quote
MUFC Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Used to love playing in the cold when younger not so much now. Quote
6666 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 (edited) Their new album seems to be doing well. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gl42e1gljo Seems like not everyone is in the "liked them when they started but haven't liked anything for years though" category. Edited October 13 by 6666 Quote

Why do you get so butthurt about stuff like this ? Quote

I'm never really surprised when pop music I don't think is very good is super popular. Quote
Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted October 14 Subscriber Posted October 14 There's really no mystery to why these things do well from a music standpoint in the modern era. Most bands have folks who do this kind of research for them. If you ride your success well and work the market to your advantage based on the more popular music choices of the era you're going to win. This isn't just a voice, its a choice in chord pattern, melody staging, etc. Some artists just do better than others for this fact alone. Music producers are the real MVPs in the game these days. Toinho Posted October 16 Posted October 16 They had a show here a fair few months ago and it sold out in minutes and people were going crazy. I don't mind one or two of their songs, but for me, vastly overrated. Quote
