Wonder how the wonderkids will tolerate his direct and blunt approach.

Gut instinct is that it won't be a good fit.

Would England not benefit from Directness given some of the players they have.   Tuchels reputation has taken a bit of a hit in terms of how good he is but given the other options that england had considered,  including Howe were probably not right either

Namedropped him as the manager I wanted in July. I'm very pleasantly surprised that the FA have gone up this route - I think it's a gamble and I respect them for taking it but he's a higher calibre than not far off any other international manager currently, I think he's got the right skillset for it and it's a good way of masking over his weaknesses. I think he's somebody who could totally blow up but he's also somebody who can win England a tournament.

I like it. I'm genuinely quite enthusiastic.

Depends how his relation to the the FA officials is developing. Also a questions how big the ego of Englands's player is! Tuchel is neither a yesman nor a manager excusing extravagencies of his players easily.

Fine with me. I think this whole happy camp and culture thing is blown well out of proportion and think it's just a convenient line for the media (who liked Southgate) to go with to promote him. I didn't see much evidence of a happy camp in the Euros personally.

I liked the below assessment:

I think he could potentially be the best manager for the job. He got results fast at Chelsea and obviously won the champions league @Cicero what do you think?

I'm not sure he does any better than Southgate.

Tuchel's first managerial principle will always be to organise a side to mitigate counter attacks. I think England's lack of top CBs and DMs will have him revert to a 3 at the back system again. This will frustrate a lot of fans as this will in turn have a lack of numerical advantages in the attacking end. Bayern and ourselves found it difficult to create chances due to his system so when they aren't clinical, its awful. That's my biggest question. Can England be clinical?

My stance has always been that England does not have the midfield nor the defence to play a controlling/attacking game that reflects the attacking talent at England's disposal. Southgate was battered for it.

I will give him a chance. If Klopp & Pep were off the table & Premier League managers content or contracted, he may be ok financially.

I can imagine people will find it quite endearing to see a German having any meltdown he may or may not have, on England's behalf.

Don't know too much about him tactically, but Chelsea of recent past years perhaps would play wingers as wing backs?

Mills has always been an absolute cretin. I really don't like our media and it isn't because they're harsh - they're just ridden with agendas and very selective.

I mean what the fuck is this load of absolute waffle?

Sam Wallace at Telegraph was lauding Pep to be new England manager, lapping it up.

Tuchel is appointed and he is bemoaning that it's a foreign manager taking charge, despite the Pep love-in.

xD

Mask slips moment. It's all agenda-driven rubbish and I don't consume a great deal these days.

I don't think the manager being foreign is something that should be ignored. Ultimately this is international football and I do think England being unable to produce a manager worthy of the job is quite a damning indictment. That doesn't mean I'd be going for Graham Potter over Tuchel though.

It's even funnier as well because there was only 3 days between the articles/tweets xD

Believing Thomas Tuchel can't do better than 2 World Cup semi finals & 2 Euro Finals isn't a wild take at all.

I think Southgate doing decently with the best England squads in our lifetime was more in spite of him than because of the way he had England set up, tbh. He very well may do worse, but I doubt he'll have England sides set up to defend for 90 minutes with hopes of getting a freak goal against the run of play to save his arse.

And if we do end up with an England like that... no real change lol

I'm pretty certain England will remain a defensive side. I think this is one of the toughest jobs in the world simply because of all the attacking talent at their disposal, England don't have the midfield nor defence to play a controlling, attacking style of football that many want.

Reason why I am skeptical is that although Tuchel is a vastly more intelligent manager,, he still heavily relies on his players being clinical when they need to be. He'll always prioritise players who can contribute defensively over creating numerical attacking advantages. This can lead to pedestrian football. Chelsea fans and Bayern fans have expressed annoyance of the lack of attacking chances that are created. When players are clinical. Fantastic. When players aren't. It's awful.

People like to point to our Champions League final against City but we almost lost the Super Cup & Club World Cup because we couldn't put away the minimum amount of chances we created. We lost both domestic cup finals to Liverpool for also wasting the few chances we created. The Champions League final was almost an anomaly. (Helps Kante played the game of his life)

I look back at Southgate's tenure and too many times England created very little and weren't clinical when it mattered. Can Tuchel change that?
