Huddersfield & Brighton will surprise a few this season.

Most writing them off for relegation before a ball has even been kicked, two good managers with sides that play good football. I personally think there's worse teams in the league than both.

I don't know about there being worse teams on paper but teams are bound to fuck themselves over:

- If Newcastle and West Brom don't invest there's every chance there Managers could walk, Stoke and Swansea really need to sign more players, Watford like breaking things that are fixed, and DeBoer is trying to play possession based football with players like Martin Kelly.

I only noticed our first two months of fixtures yesterday. That could really destroy all confidence if we don't get points early. This could be another George Burley situation where we have to abandon the project before giving it the long term support it needs to survive

I remember last time we came up we lost on the first day against Man Utd and barely touched the ball. The pundits, national media and TFFers immediately said we were in big trouble and look terrible just because we lost to Man Utd, that team every bottom half side should be beating.

The same thing will happen with this Spurs game I think. We will be beaten comfortably and the reaction will be the same.

just watched highlights now and a pearl of wisdom from Lawro when talking about Courtois taking a penalty.

he should take a penalty because as a goal-keeper he uses his feet a lot!

As opposed the outfield players who try to avoid touching the ball with their feet...

You did have significantly more guaranteed Premier League quality players last time round though.

Who? Only Nolan and Barton surely.

Not sure what that has to do with my point though. It wasn't that we will be fine just because of last time, it's that there will be drama when we fail to compete with one of the best sides in the league on the opening day just like last time even though it's not relevant, as proven by last time.

People thought Coloccini was a joke defender. No one knew how well Andy Carroll would do. How great Jose Enrique was. How Tiote would boss the midfield. How Ben Arfa would tear through defences and how Krul would go on to be one of the best keepers in the league. No one foresaw any of this so how can we foresee anything when we lose 3-0 at home to title contenders Spurs either?

Completely misread the point of your post, but based on previously accomplishments, performances and reputation I would have chucked Enrique, Coloccini and Ben Arfa in with Nolan and Barton. Even though he failed, I'd have had Alan Smith in there too. Goes without saying that Krul and Carroll far exceeded expectations.

And Chris Hughton was manager, top manager that bloke :D

Great idea to put a team that you already scheduled to play this past Sunday in the first game of the Premier League season. A day earlier than usual as well. :dam:

In terms of other games I'll be watching, I'll be tuning in and out of games that are actually on TV and trying to find a way to watch Everton/Stoke.

Other than Everton v Fulham this is statistically the most one-sided fixture in Premier League history. We occasionally get something at Spurs, Everton, Man City, Liverpool and even Man Utd and Chelsea in the past, but Arsenal it just never happens for us. Ten defeats in a row and so often so cruel.

Seeing as Arsenal away was quite late on last year I'm intrigued to see what we've improved upon. I thought we were poor at Arsenal last year and very negative, while the goal was unlucky, we invited trouble and, as it always does at Arsenal, it found us.

I expect yet another close loss to be honest. I can't see us being quite as negative as last time out but I think even for how badly Arsenal traditionally start, and how many players they're likely to be missing, we'll end up empty handed. It frustrates me as I think that, after all my initial moaning, we probably have them at the best possible time.

Our pre-season was pretty poor but we ended it well and that matters more I think. We looked our old selves against Gladbach.

I won't rule us out entirely but I've seen this fixture so many times and it always seems to go the same way.

I'm desperate for Shakespeare to prove people wrong, the main reason he has doubters is because he's English and because he's not a name. Understandable skepticism to some extent but harshly bashed by some as well. We got nearly 2 points a game under him last year. I don't buy that it was simply "they worked harder".

The excitement is building.

Got no idea what to expect. The Huddersfield in pre season have looked a lot more attacking than they ever did last season, and there fans are going to treat the occasion like a party. This could be the worst time to play them.

I do fancy Huddersfield this weekend. Can see them being a bit of a Blackpool but one that just stays up.

what did he say?

“He is working very well, he is improving a lot his physical condition, and he is starting to understand our football, our idea of football. He could be an option, a possibility to start on Saturday.”
