The key thing is that in my opinion makes all this nonsense meaningless is that Johnson is not being done-in by anything recent that either he or Labour have done. He is being hit by revelations that many people have obviously been sitting on for months and months. What were they waiting for all this time, why didn’t this information arise at the time? Because those who control the channels of information still didn’t entirely trust the opposition. The UK is an authoritarian oligarchy ruled by a media-political class that arranges the exact composition of every government, and which will only show any hostility to the Conservatives so long as it can make sure the opposition is sufficiently neutered. And this is enabled by a middle-aged, middle-class “progressive” demographic that, when push comes to shove, would rather have a Hungary or Poland situation if the alternative is even the most mildly redistributive social democracy. If destroying Johnson would lead to any substantive change, then it simply wouldn’t be allowed to happen - just as it has already not been allowed to happen for all these months.2 points

Sounds almost identical except our right wing party is slightly less driven by corporate and money stuff and more by staying in power, because half of them are already millionaires who have inherited estate from Mummy and Daddy and never spent a day in the real world. The likes of Johnson and Rees-Mogg have spent their lives believing they have some sort of divine right to rule the country because of their background and private education, and the influence the Auld English class system still has at every level of our political system. We have our country run at the behest of cripplingly mediocre posh white men and their fetish for cosplaying as a long-past Victorian upper ruling class, along with those from more varied backgrounds who are willing to sell enough of their soul to prop them up in return for a slice of the pie. Also the current specific iteration of our Conservatives haven't shied away from exploiting isolationist, nationalist sentiment in a rather Trumpian manner, driven by Farage and his Brexit project. Brexit is slipping out of the public conversation though and Johnson's popularity is in a tail spin. They've had 12(?) years in power under three different Prime Ministers though, each one even worse than their predecessor, so I'm more optimistic than I have been in a while that the electorate might actually grant us a reprieve from another Conservative government at least for just one term. A man can dream.1 point

So they are basically saying that a man on foot is faster than Formula E cars? Really great marketing In all seriousness, the video looks great, but I'm honestly not sure if showing a massive crash from last season and then drivers outrunning their cars is a great way to advertise the series...1 point

Instead of buying each episode why don’t you just get Disney plus @MUFC @Gunnersauraus ? It’s well worth it. I have it for the daughter but I’ve re watched all the marvel stuff and a few documentaries. I’ll be watching TWD when it starts again in a couple of weeks .1 point

Wouldn't mind seeing the Bengals knock KC again, although the odds are against them now. They beat KC in the regular season but I feel like Cincy has used up all it's luck in the postseason just to get to this point. Still nice to have 2 playoff wins in one season after going 31 years without any.1 point

Yeah the thing is they're polling like shit in those constituencies though. There was an in-depth "Red Wall" poll over the weekend. People largely think Boris Johnson is a liar now and Brexit just doesn't register as a priority. They also did some hypothetical polling of which way they'd vote at the next election depending on the Conservative leader. Under Johnson, Labour are projected to win back 45 of the 48 seats they lost in 2019 and under every other leader apart from Sunak, who was projected to a bit better than Johnson, the Tories are polling even worse. It's a shame there isn't an election tomorrow because the Tories certainly wouldn't get a majority and Labour might even get one themselves without a coalition. Just got to hope this shit sticks in the long-term and Starmer makes a decent case when the next election comes. The Tories are in a lose-lose at the moment though. Johnson has shot his bolt and it looks impossible for him to chart a path to recovery, and they don't have an obvious replacement who is anything more than just palatable in Sunak, who's economic policies are likely to go down very poorly in the seats they need to keep. We'll see anyway. Regardless of what it means electorally, I'll enjoy the retribution of Johnson having to go down in history as having an even shorter stint as PM than Theresa May after spending a lifetime lying and cheating his way through with that one goal in mind. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.1 point

Yeah not having Johnson but having to choose from guff like Patel, Gove, Truss or Raab is like choosing to have your left hand cut off or your right hand. Johnson has all that exterior appearance to be embarrassed by on top of his prejudices, but then look how all of the above pretty much clamour to defend him instead of speaking out against any wrongdoings.1 point

Jean-Claude Mézières, a reknowned French comics artist and illustrator, has passed away today Most famous for his Valérian artwork and ongoing contributions to Métal Hurlant (the original Heavy Metal), his artwork also inspired a lot of sci-fi movies - most notably the Star Wars franchise. Some of the influences in Star Wars looks like a straight out rip off of his earlier work: Also, his concept art for the Fifth Element:1 point

I treat animals with more love than humans in all my games. RDR2, Breath of the Wild and Ghost of Tsushima all have horses that have felt my love and attention. Left plenty of people on traintracks to be fair.1 point

Man, I am in awe of Red Dead Redemption II. There's so much to do besides the "main story". I also like the fact that it plays in 1899, where outlaw gunslingers are almost extinct. Some cities in the game are as old west as they get, with the usual wooden saloons and whatnot, but then you also have towns with electricity, trams, fancy lit up stone buildings etc. Makes me curious about that time in real life.1 point

Israel is always looking to bomb Iran and always on the side of pressuring the US to invade Iran for them. It's a bit similar to Iraq, Israel pushed the US to invade until they finally did - even manufacturing evidence for the US to present to the UN to justify the war. Since 1996 Israel's right-wing has been saying Iran is "under 7 months" from getting the bomb. The time table constantly changes, but each year if you pay attention you'll see either the Israel PM/FM/Defense Minister/Head of Mossad come forward with a statement saying Iran is "months" from acquiring a bomb. So this concern of Israel's is really nothing new - although, I think at this point after pressuring the US to abandon the JCPOA... they've probably pushed Iran closer than ever to getting the bomb And while negotiations are ongoing, recent news suggests that the efforts to revive the JCPOA are likely going to fail as the US wants to add additional terms to any nuclear deal, whereas Iran's unwilling to re-negotiate terms unless there's more concessions made to them & the US can guarantee any deal will survive a change in presidential administrations. These points leave no room for the other side to truly negotiate. Iran will never agree to give up it's long ranged ballistic missiles AND stop progress towards it's nuclear capability. Like Israel, Iran is surrounded by unfriendly neighbors and will want the ability to defend themselves. Long range ballistic missiles have proven to be an effective deterrent for foreign invasion into Iran. The US will never agree to concede more to Iran, because of how Obama was slaughtered by the American right wing for making a deal with them, and simply cannot guarantee a deal can survive beyond Biden's term unless a formal treaty is signed and ratified (and the treaty would never pass the US senate). I suspect if Iran does get close to a nuclear bomb, Israel is ready to attack. I don't think flying over other countries would be a major issue for Israel, tbh. They have normalised relations with Jordan, so I'm sure they'd be able to use that airspace. Then they'd have to fly into Iraq (perhaps landing if they need to refuel) and considering the US controls the skies in Iraq, I am sure they are able to do that quite easily. But this would likely cause Iran to have it's proxy in Lebanon mobilise and make constant attacks in Israel, as well as open up Iranian forces in Syria to launch missiles into Israel. It will probably be a very ugly conflict that likely gets the west involved into another full on invasion of a Middle Eastern country... which I'm not sure the West really has the stomach for. Iran would be a bigger scale conflict than the Iraq invasion was - it's a country with a much more varied terrain, a lot more people, and a military that's gained substantial experience in the last 20 years.1 point

Like, never? I like duck a lot, it tastes more like red meat (steak!) than poultry, but it can be a bit too fatty sometimes - not the meat itself, but there's a rather thick layer of fat right under the skin, so it can be quite challenging to make sure it's crispy yet not overcooked... That said, duck fat is also amazing. I usually save it after roasting the duck and use it later for stuff like fried potatoes... tastes like heaven. If you have a good Chinese restaurant near you, I'd highly recommend trying Peking duck. It's too hard to pull off at home, but when it's done properly, it's nothing short of amazing.1 point

An interesting coincidence: Today, NASA announced that they found water in Clavius Crater, making it a great place for a potential future moonbase. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, Clavius crater is also the place where the moonbase was built, and then they discovered the Monolith in the nearby Tycho crater1 point
