that fish does look good  but the chips look soggy

Aye, the son and wife saturared the chips with brown sauce but I told them to fuck off and don't touch my Haddock, just a bit of salt on it and it went down well.😛

dunno why anyone would put it on fish and chips, maybe eggs and toast

Yep, only thing that belongs on fish and chips is salt and vinegar.

Maybe a bit of mayo on the side but it's not a must and can live without there being any.

Is tartar sauce a thing in the UK or not really?

as the default accompaniment for fish and chips, i thought so

Oh that I wouldn't know, just wondered if it's popular in the UK as it goes well with seafood in general! I generally don't need any sauce with fish or chips (just salt and vinegar), but tartar is the only sauce I wouldn't mind.

Yep it is and often goes well with fish too :)

Think it's like a softer version of marmite in that you either love it or hate it with the fish and chips.

Absolutely, but I’d say for the older generation now. My mum used to love it as did her friends if they were eating at a restaurant. Not so much from a chippie takeaway though. I love get mine with a side of either curry sauce, gravy or mushy peas.

I haven't tried Areas. But fish and chips is special, and I don't see anything coming close.

That piece of Haddock I had yesterday was out of this world and that was only a small portion, I am tempted to have a bigger portion again this afternoon and tell our son to fuck off if he tries stealing my chips. :cardY:

I will blackmail the wife with her favourite carry out, a curry with Balti Sauce from the local Chinese and just give our son ONE of my chips xD

Give me battered Haddock or Cod any day with chips, pitty I can't get Rock Eel up this way, that's another favourite of mine.

You can't say 'curry' any more mate. It's 'spicy Indian food' which is allowed.

Also, you can't order them from Chinese restaurants any more. It's quite insulting to both regions/cuisines.

I get lost with all these can't say this can't say that nowadays, shows you how old I am, once upon a time you could make an innocent remark like the latter and think nothing of it, it's a funny old world we live in nowadays...sigh. O.o

You've gone from a few chips to no chips. Missus really has cracked the whip on your diet...

Aye, she sure has, a lot more salads too, but that Haddock coated in batter was heaven and the bloody size of it. :dam:
