The hair pull is a complete over-exaggeration and long-haired players demanding special treatment.

Having played with long hair, yes, when someone pulls it, it hurts. That's why you tie it back. In the thrust of a game when people are pulling and dragging each other (which they both were), if your hair is fanned out over your shoulders, it will get pulled. Had Mount or James been defending, Romero would have pulled them down by their shirt and there'd be no debate. Players with long hair who do not tie it back are taking it into their own hands if it gets pulled in a 50/50. Of course, it's different is a player is running clear and a stretching defender deliberately reaches for the hair.

That Chelsea fans are screaming VAR should have pulled it back for a foul is ridiculous. VAR don't get involved in that. VAR's only duty was to check if it was a red card offense or not. It wasn't. It could not simply stop the game for a yellow card or a free kick. As the ball was dead when it reviewed it, a new phase of play had started and the incident dealt with. Chelsea fans screaming that VAR should throw out its own rule book to atone for their own inability to mark a corner is embarrassing.

As if people are saying the hair pull is an overreaction. He had a fistful and yanked it, was a red card offense for me.

Spurs fans have white-tinted glasses it appears.

Utterly bizarre response to what is clearly unsporting behaviour.

No one’s denying it was a foul, it’s just a massive overreaction to the act claiming it’s some horrifying red card. It’s not. It’s a hair pull ffs, players grapple and pull each other in the box all the time. Look at the video and the way a cucurella is grabbing Romero first and constantly during the act. We are lucky the ref didn’t see the foul during the first corner but no surprise VAR didn’t give it as a red because it’s just not violent conduct. Which is what they were checking for.

And absolutely no-one is saying it's 'horrifying' either so the exaggeration on your part is unnecessary.

Players grapple and pull each other by shirt because it's a contact sport. Hair-pulling clearly isn't (or at least shouldn't be) part of the game.

Cucurella and Romero can grab each other all they want - like literally all other players will do - but Romero took it too far with the hair-pulling.

Honestly who cares about unsporting, the hair pull was funny tbh. Want more of it. Romero is an utter shit house. See him square up to James the moment the equaliser went in? That is football heritage.

Now we just need Simeone in the league and the drama is complete.

Ha they absolutely are. The reaction to it as an act is well over the top.

It’s just your classic grappling in the box. It’s just that not many people have such stupid hair as Cucurella to be fair. Yes he took it too far in that it was a foul. But not ‘violent conduct’ as was being checked for. But anyway it’s all irrelevant as they bottled it regardless

The man is sensational. Sort of player you adore when he’s on your team and usually hate when he isn’t.

Plays with so much aggression...I'd want to see him in a Simeone team tbh. That could be sensational, especially if he was involved in the Atleti vs City flare ups last season.

No, players who have long hair need to actually take some responsibility and need to not think they warrant special treatment.

I wear my hair long most of the time so this is not an anti-long-hair thing at all. However, if you are a professional sports player, you need to take responsibility and take steps to ensure your hair doesn't get in the way. By that, long-haired players must tie their hair either back or up so it can't get pulled in a tussle, we have none of this crap. Obviously, if a player then yanks the ponytail, it's obvious.

If Romero is tussling with Mount or James, or a long haired player like Andy Carroll who ties it back, he grabs the top of his shirt.

Cucarella ran at Romero and tried to shove him backwards and got a hold of his shirt, Romero, who isn't even looking at him grabs back and throws him away but gets a hold of his hair because it's lying loose over his shirt.

Yet Chelsea are expecting special treatment because a player hasn't prepared himself for a match properly.

As many players should have long hair as they want but take responsibility and tie it back before the match. This is what happens in women's football and in every line of work where your hair can get in the way of doing your job.

The reaction is pathetic.

Your over-reaction and pettiness about how people should wear their hair is equally pathetic then xD

'ensure your hair doesn't get in the way'. Cucurella's hair accidentally found it's way into Romero's hand, did it?

You can have whatever length and style hair you want, as I have already said.

In any walk of life, in any job, anyone who has hair that might interfere with what they are doing, is asked to tie it back and ensure it's out of the way. How many women's footballers do you see with their hair down?

He does have a responsibility to ensure his hair isn't in the way.

Romero is not looking at him, as you can see if you watch the incident again. Hr reactions to Cucarella grabbing him by grabbing back. If Cucarella has his hair tied up, Romero grabs the top of his shirt and nobody is talking about a red card.

The situation is Cucarella's responsibility and he does not get special treatment for the way he wears his hair.

You're so petty it's unbelievable. You act like Romero has no ability to realise whether he's touching someone's hair or shirt xDxD

Amazing how, given how many games Cucurella has played in, that every other player has been able to decipher where his hair is and have the wherewithal to know not to pull it xD Romero is a special case though, of course...

You talk utter, utter shite.

Your cunt player grabbed his hair and pulled him to the ground by it. Pathetic, bitch like behaviour that deserved a red card. To praise him for that sort of thing like some are doing is just bizarre. I want to see passion myself, but there’s a difference to putting your all into the game and going round pulling hair like a child would.

Rick, Cucurella's hair was in the way. He's 100% to blame. It fell into Romero's hand and he made Romero pull it down!

Where did I praise him?

If the ref catches it, he probably gives a free kick and books him, yes. Despite the fact Cucarella grabbed Romero first to hold on to his shirt and stop him attacking the ball.

Maybe their cunt racist should tie his hair back next time and these things won't happen. I know their club loves employing racists while falsely accusing others of it, it just goes with their history of gas chamber taunts but perhaps if he actually took responsibility and tied his hair back, he only gets pulled down by his shirt and nobody screams red card.

It's not one rule for long-haired players and another for others. It's not a red card.

Maybe Cucarella should have got one earlier for his studs up tackle into Romero's knee that could have caused an actual injury.

Once again, they were not hard done by for the second goal:

The only review was for a red card. It wasn't a red card. VAR don't influence free kick or yellow card decisions.

The ball was dead when they reviewed it, hence the phase of play was over. Even if Romero does get sent off, it's not even likely to be a foul as it's an off the ball incident and neither of them had any material effect on what actually happened nor were they going to, which is a Spurs header and good save from Mendy. Neither of them were near the ball.

The situation was dealt with by VAR, the corner was a new phase of play. We scored due to bad marking and a good corner.

Had the ref seen the whole incident, perhaps he gives a free kick if he deems Romero the initial aggressor. I accept that. But he didn't. These things happen.

The hysteria surrounding it is a joke.
