In a shock move, championship leader @RandoEFC is abandoning McLaren after carrying them for weeks to become @DeadLinesman's new team mate at Red Bull! Subscriber RandoEFC+ 7,664 Posted July 12, 2023 Author Subscriber Share Posted July 12, 2023 Results - British Grand Prix With the field narrowed down to ten regulars, we no longer have to mention anybody who didn't predict. Of those who did, we have the usual full house of Verstappen pole position and victory, giving everyone a baseline of 10 points. Nobody foresaw Lando Norris finishing on the podium, with another scutch of Perez, Leclerc, Sainz and Russell misfires across the field. It was Lewis Hamilton's 3rd place which provided the differential between the podium scores this week, with @nudge, @The Palace Fan and @OrangeKhrush calling this exactly correct for another 5 points. @Stan, @Whiskey and @Coma all predicted a 2nd place for Hamilton, delivering them an extra 2 points. Our random driver for the weekend was Pierre Gasly, who was battling in the 9th-12th region that most people predicted him to finish. However, a late clash with Lance Stroll saw Gasly pick up damage to his Alpine that prevented him from seeing the chequered flag. With nobody predicting a DNF this week and Gasly officially ending up classified in 18th, 2 points go to @MUFC, whose prediction of 13th was closest of anyone's. Finally, this week's bonus question asked whether any of the bottom four teams in the championship would score any points this weekend. Alex Albon's strong 8th place meant that those who said Yes - @RandoEFC, @Stan, @MUFC, @Tommy, @nudge, @Whiskey, @Coma and @OrangeKhrush - all bag another 5 points. A tight week sees @nudge and @OrangeKhrush end up as joint top scorers thanks to the combination of Hamilton's 3rd place and points for Williams, with @DeadLinesman at the other end of the scale as the only one to score nothing beyond the 10 points for Verstappen's inevitable pole/win combo. Here's what the standings now look like: @Coma sneaks back to the top of the table having outscored @RandoEFC by 2 points this weekend. @Stan ekes another point closer to the top of the standings by matching our new leader and @OrangeKhrush's joint-top-scoring week sees him go joint 3rd. Some gaps are appearing further back, and with Eco and Josh removed from the standings, there is a close battle to avoid the wooden spoon, with @nudge's 20 points this week lifting her off the bottom at @The Palace Fan's expense. In the Constructors' table, Mercedes outscore their nearest rivals to extend their lead at the top by another 2 points. The new-look Red Bull team of @RandoEFC and @DeadLinesman is adjusted to 3rd place, giving us a genuine five-way title fight, with all five teams now covered by just 22 points. Even Alpine only have to gain 2 points per race on Mercedes to overtake them by the end of the season! Ferrari were this week's top scorers in a close week with 37 points.
