nudge Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 They obviously haven't taken the cost of living into account much, haha.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted August 17, 2017 Subscriber Posted August 17, 2017 I've never seen the term liveable before. What does it mean?
nudge Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 In this particular survey, "livability" score was apparently calculated by ranking each city a total score out of 100 for stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Worth mentioning: the final report is sold to corporations so they can decide on extra pay levels for executives who move abroad.
Toinho Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 To the German contingent; Hamburg worthy of that place? Let's take this article with a pinch of salt though of course.

Helsinki Tell that to the alcoholic and suicidal Fins that live there.

Hamburg is a nice and very accessible city, and less expensive compared to most other big cities in Western Europe and the rest of the World. Well at least it used to be, no idea how it is now.
The Artful Dodger Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Hamburg has a boss miniature wonderland place but was really seedy in places, good laugh but seedy.

I mean Vancouver is similar in that regard too, hence why alot of people like me live in suburbs. Im like an hour an change outside of it. The sad part about these cities is the locals get priced out of living there quite frequently.
TrstnFCB Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Toronto as one of the most livable cities Please someone spare me! This place is more expensive and more shit by the day. The most hilarious thing is that the TTC was awarded best transit system in North America in 2016 when it has some of the highest prices and shittest service on the entire fucking continent. There's skyrocketing poverty and homelessness rates, food bank use rises drastically every year, we have one of the highest child poverty rates, meanwhile the city and province spends its money on a giant rubber duck to float in the harbour. Rental prices are through the roof since all they want to do is make condos for foreign investors (usually east Asian or middle eastern) to buy to make it seem like people are actually buying the units. Its one of the most shittest and boring cities in the continent frankly. Funny to see Vancouver up there too when they got similar problems with the housing/rental market. Both cities will get what's coming to them when that housing bubble bursts.
Panflute Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 didn't know the definition of liveable was 'boring and full of detestable yuppies and middle class bores'
Harry Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Astonishing to think melbourne tops a list like this. It's so fucking expensive here. Surely affordability has got to be a huge part of the equation. They obviously don't weight that one highly enough.
Panflute Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 in the end this just boils down to city marketing. the real 10 most liveable cities will be places nobody has heard of, because the metropolis is universally awful
nudge Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 All those surveys are just designed to help multinational corporations determine what kind of relocation package they will offer to their expat workforce, it has little to no meaning beyond that context.
Toinho Posted August 20, 2017 Author Posted August 20, 2017 So much butt hurt in this thread for a list that really has no "meaning".

nudge Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 It would be interesting to see a proper list of most expensive cities to live in.

Sydney is amazing, from the botanic gardens to the Opera House and Bridge, The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Manly, Palm Beach, Bondi and the Eastern suburbs to Surry Hills and Newtown. Literally class and has just about everything you want from a city from class beaches, great weather, a million things to do around the city and the landmarks that go with it.
