In terms of fullbacks Argentina have more experienced and reliable options but France have more talented, younger players there. The only possible qualitative edges Argentina have are in terms of centre forward - of which they play only one (or none) - and Messi. How many Argentinian players today get into France’s team today ? Messi, ofc. That’s it. Messi, Di Maria, Aguero, Higuain, Dybala, Armani, and Mercado. Well the forwards depend on Mbappe but the 2 forwards could easily get into the French team. Again, just because they underperform for the national team its easier to say that they aren't that talented.

Spike
Just now, Blue said: He could have had a horrible agent, but he was unreal in the Copa Libertadores 2016 where he made several impossible saves. Playing in a top league doesn't make those saves any tougher. The only thing that happens in the step up is better precision, like we saw from Mbappe in the 4th goal. He should have been called up 5 years ago and this is his second cup in a world cup match. Kind of unfair to pick him out on this game alone to be fair. If he was an elite goalkeeper scouts from all over the world would be salivating over him. Scouts don't need agents to help them, nor is South-America or the Copa Libertadores an obscure competition that only Sudacas know about. I have no doubt he is a fine keeper but if he was as elite as you say he is he wouodn't have spent half of his career in Colombia unless of course he is a late bloomer. But he's 31... he just joined River Plate and doubtful a European takes him now. Its not that easy for a European to take from a club in Argentina or Brazil. and its even less appealing if they are over 27. Its also risky. You don't need to play in Europe to be an elite player, its just tougher to be that.

No one in their right minds would rather have them than Griezmann/Mbappe. Maybe swap one of them for Giroud, that's about it. France have better attacking options overall. In the rest of the field it isn't even worth a debate.

Kowabunga
Just now, Spike said: @Kowabunga I've only seen Lucas play at CB, has he played in this manner for Atléti before? He certainly can play as a very solid left back and he is very fast. He may not be ideal as I don't expect him to get to the baseline in a regular basis (a la Filipe or Juanfran), but as I have said, he is capable of playing also in offence and surprise with some crosses, and you know, even evolve a little in that regard. A fantastic sub for both positions. If he is in Atlético two years away from now, he may be the undisputed starter at CB, but having him as alternative to Filipe at the LB is a problem of riches for the 18/19 season. I’d happily take Dembele, Griezmann, or Mbappe over any Argentinian attacking player except Messi. Pavard is less experienced but he’s far more talented than Mercado. And that’s not eurocentrism. That’s just prioritising energy and technique over experience. Thats what France have done and they’ve won.

Are you telling me a club in Europe, any club wouldn't take an elite goalkeeper for a cheaper fee? Come now, clubs would be flocking to him if he were as good as you say, reggardless of age. A few years of elite keeping is better than most anything. Even your Napoli is starting an even OLDER keeper

Administrator Stan Posted June 30, 2018 Author Administrator Share Posted June 30, 2018 what a fucking game Mbappe absolutely quality. Hope he continues to be this good and lives up to the hype because anyone who's sane can see how good he's been over the past couple of years. Thought Kante had a good game too. Pavard's and Di Maria's goals were superb.
