Huge waterspout hits Italy's south-western city

A huge waterspout has been captured on video moving from the sea and hitting Italy's south-western city of Salerno.

Eyewitnesses said the whirling column of air and water lifted containers in the city's port area. There were no reports of any injuries.

The rare phenomenon was observed at about 15:00 local time (14:00 GMT), officials say.

A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex that occurs over a body of water and quickly dissolves over dry land.

Footage of Tuesday's waterspout has been widely shared on social media, with some users describing the vortex as "incredible".

I thought I was reading something from the SUN or STAR for a minute then saw it was the INDEPENDENT, how the fuck did he ever enrol in the first place without an adult teacher or whatever clicking on that something was wrong, as one 11-year-old boy said  “He looks way older than many of the teachers,” a year 11 boy told the Daily Mirror. “It’s like someone’s dad came into school.”

Investigation launched into how man aged about 30 could be enrolled at the school as a 15-year-old pupil

An adult asylum seeker who may be as old as 30 posed as a 15-year-old student to attend a high school in Ipswich, the government has confirmed.

The man was removed from Stoke High School after pupils raised concerns about his mature looks – including his 6ft 1in height and a full beard.

“He looks way older than many of the teachers,” a year 11 boy told the Daily Mirror. “It’s like someone’s dad came into school.”

The Home Office has now launched an investigation to how the mix-up could have been allowed to happen.

Russia’s attacked Ukrainian naval vessels saying that Ukraine isn’t respecting Russia’s presence in waters that really belong to Ukraine but Russia’s invaded.

Nothing good will happen because it’s 2018 and the world is fucking shite.

Nothing will happen because nothing happened last time they messed around with the Ukraine.  Nothing happened to the American journalist that was massacred by the Saudi Arabian royal family with Trump even letting them off.  Don't worry... The status quo will remain with some governments pretending to be shocked and astounded at Russia's anarchism.

Or them using Britain as their killing grounds.

Alaska earthquake: Anchorage rocked by aftershocks

1 December 2018

A major 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck Alaska, causing people to run from buildings and briefly prompting a tsunami alert for coastal areas.

The quake was centred about seven miles (11km) north of Anchorage, the largest city in the state, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

A series of aftershocks was recorded following the initial shock, which had a depth of 40.9km, the USGS said.

Around 300,000 people live in Anchorage with 100,000 in the surrounding area.

This makes me sad and fucking mad at the same time, a young lad who might have his dream shattered by madmen.

The Taliban threats

However, his family say they fear the fame has made him a Taliban target.

"Local strongmen were calling and saying, 'You have become rich, pay the money you have received from Messi or we will take your son'," his mother, Shafiqa, told AFP.

Afghanistan's 'Little Messi' flees home after Taliban threats, says family

A young Afghan boy who was made famous online for his devotion to footballer Lionel Messi has been forced to flee his home for the second time.

Murtaza Ahmadi, now aged seven, went viral in 2016 after being photographed wearing a homemade Messi shirt, fashioned out of a plastic bag.

He later met his hero in Qatar.

His family say they have now abandoned their home in Afghanistan, after receiving threats from the Taliban.

They were living in the south-eastern Ghazni province - which militants have been targeting - and have escaped to the capital, Kabul.

They previously sought short-term refuge in Pakistan in 2016 but returned when they ran out of money, according to AFP news agency.

The makeshift shirt

Murtaza was five years old when he wore a plastic-bag shirt in the white-and-blue colours of the Argentine national team, which Messi captains. It had the player's number 10 drawn on the front with a marker pen.

After a photo was shared widely on social networks, people called for him to be found so Messi could respond.

When the boy's name was released, the player sent him a package - including a signed shirt - via the children's charity Unicef, which he works for as an ambassador.

Murtaza was later invited to meet Messi when the Barcelona star played a friendly in Doha in late 2016. The young fan walked on to the pitch with his idol.

The Taliban threats

However, his family say they fear the fame has made him a Taliban target.

"Local strongmen were calling and saying, 'You have become rich, pay the money you have received from Messi or we will take your son'," his mother, Shafiqa, told AFP.

She said were not able to take any of their belongings - including the precious shirt - when then left their home in the middle of the night after hearing gunshots.

A home under siege

Murtaza's family are part of the Shia-denominated Hazara ethnic group, which has been targeted by the Sunni Taliban.

The Ghazni area remains under state control, but it is considered to be of strategic importance in the conflict between the government and the Taliban.

The hard-line Islamic group launched a major assault on the area in August and renewed their efforts in November, forcing thousands of locals to flee. Hundreds of people - civilians, soldiers, and insurgents - were killed in the outbreak of violence.

Murtaza's 17-year-old brother, Humayoon, told Efe news agency that they had not been able to send him to school for the past two years and they do not let him play in the street.

"I miss Messi," Murtaza said when AFP found him in Kabul. He said he hopes to meet him again one day.

"When I meet him, I will say, 'Salaam' and 'How are you?' Then he will reply saying thank you and be safe, and I will go with him to the pitch where he will play and I will watch him."

Those are quite common in Germany, especially around Christmas.

But happens when you let in one too many peaceful helpless followers of the religion of peace.

Anyone heard of Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun story? An 18 year old Saudi girl who renounced Islam and fled her abusive family and transited via Thailand for a connecting flight to Australia for asylum had her passport seized by a Saudi diplomat who met her coming off the flight at the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport. Thailand were initially going to deport her back on Saudis request, but the girl barricaded in her airport transit hotel room and tweeted her story live which caused a big uproar and now she's been finally allowed to meet UN refugee agency representatives and has been promised protection and safe passage to another country (probably Australia).

Yea, read that earlier... she was worried sending her back would basically pass her a death sentence... just caught the gist of it but never read the full article... sounds like it's going to end a little better for her now though

She's done well to get so far out of Saudi Arabia to be fair without getting caught or stopped before getting on the flight.

Hopefully. She's apparently been threatened by the staff of Saudi embassy that they'd find, kidnap and then deal with her if she doesn't comply. Her cousin allegedly sent her a message saying she will be slaughtered. She's lucky she was able to make it public and spread it around as Thailand is not a signatory to international agreements allowing travelers to seek asylum and thus was not bound to honor her asylum request...

She was on a trip in Kuwait with her family when she fled; and with Thailand being a popular destination for medical treatment it didn't look suspicious.

One of the better aspects of social media... got to hand it to her for being brave enough to try and escape in the first place and thanks to this getting out and attracting this much interest will mean it can't be hushed up with no-one knowing what was going on..

Ah didn't know about the Kuwait bit.

I admire her bravery, through. 1) to fly off on her own and escape her (abusive) family and 2) have the guts to barricade herself in and not bow down to authorities, especially being all on her own, too.

Wonder how many others will attempt this!

There have been previous attempts and there surely will be many more; some are tragic such like this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dina_Ali_Lasloom and who knows how many had the same ending without anyone "on the outside" even knowing those people existed...

Definitely a very brave young woman. An Australian ABC's journalist Sophie McNeill apparently stayed with her in the barricaded room and helped spread the word to the media worldwide.

Sad really that this still goes on in the world in places... always will be grateful for the freedoms we enjoy

Part of the reason why these Gulf nations do this is because they don't want their wealth to go outside of their country/family and that is the case with all of Middle East. They take their women's citizenship if they marry a foreigner.
