Your favourite actress is cut from the final film. What do you do?

1. Think it's a shame but not the end of the world.

2. Sue the film studio

The amount of money they're asking for after spending almost $8 xD

In more serious news, is this Ukraine-Russia stuff going to boil over in the way some headlines make it seem it's going to boil over?

Almost 500-mile-long lightning bolt crossed three US states

An almost 500-mile long bolt of lightning that lit up the sky across three US states has set a new world record for longest flash, scientists have confirmed.

The bolt in 2020, extended a total of 477.2 miles (768 km) and spread across Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.

The previous record was 440.6 miles (709 km) and recorded in Brazil in 2018.

Lightning rarely extends over 10 miles and usually lasts under a second.

Another lightning flash recorded in 2020 - in Uruguay and Argentina - has also set a new record for duration at 17.1 seconds. The previous record was 16.7 seconds.

"These are extraordinary records from lightning flash events," Professor Randall Cerveny, the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) rapporteur of weather and climate extremes, said.

According to the WMO, both records took place in areas prone to intense storms that produce "megaflashes".

Professor Cerveny added that greater extremes are likely to exist and are likely to be recorded in the future thanks to advances in space-based lightning detection technology.

The WMO warned that lightning was a hazard and urged people in both regions and around the world to take caution during storms.

"These extremely large and long-duration lightning events were not isolated but happened during active thunderstorms," lightning specialist Ron Holle said in a WMO statement.

"Any time there is thunder heard, it is time to reach a lightning-safe place".

Previously accepted WMO 'lightning extremes' include a 1975 incident in which 21 people were killed by a single flash of a lightning as they huddled inside a tent in Zimbabwe.

In another incident, 469 people were killed when lightning struck the Egyptian town of Dronka in 1994, causing burning oil to flood the town.

The WMO notes that the only lightning-safe locations are "substantial" buildings with wiring and plumbing, rather than structures such as bus stops or those found at beaches.

Fully enclosed metal-topped vehicles are also considered reliably safe.

Tragic death. Utter disdain for public safety in most of the world, just ignorance and poor management. You don't need high tech infrastructure to make nice safe pavements

@Viva la FCB - what the fuck is this trucker shit going on in Canada? I've heard a bit about it but I couldn't be arsed to learn more about what's actually going on xD something about vaccine mandates.

Apparently there's plans for a similar style "protest" to hit Los Angeles before the Super Bowl being hosted there. I'm sure the residents there are thrilled about the prospect of even more traffic in the place where I've experienced the absolute worst traffic in my life (well... other than Beijing).

But isn't that stupid if there's no such vaccine mandate in the US? I think only people who work for the federal government are mandated to be vaccinated, nobody else. But again, I don't really fully know what the hell is going on up in Canada.

So the long and the short of it is the money and movement comes primarily from the states. Trump endorsed it publically but hes also backed it monetarily. It goes back to a protest we had here I forgot the name.. two former nurses where the leaders and they staged a protest outside VGH .. our major hospital in downtown vancouver. They blocked ambulances.. cars... patients.. yelled and berated doctors and nurses going in and nothing was really done to quell it. They achieved their goal of making the news everywhere in the country and that was sort of the beginning or trial run so to speak. Someone again back then traced the organization the two nutjob nurses represented and shockingly again it all traced back to the states. Granted there is a contingent of idiots and rednecks here that join in and go along with it but it doesnt really represent anything other then spreading garbage and hate up here as well.

We had protests like that at a children's hospitals here in San Diego as well. It was ridiculous and should have been criminal, denying kids access to healthcare or harassing them and their parents - especially as a lot of the kids at that hospital are receiving cancer treatment.

That group, the Proud Boys, are Canadian no? They're pretty influential in the far right in the US as well. I'm not surprised about most of the money and organisation coming from the US - it seems to be the case now with a lot of right wing movements in the English speaking world. Look at all the places Steve Banon provided "consulting" to after leaving the Trump administration and it's not surprising it's a bunch of places with similar right wing figures.

That stuff just makes me sick but its par for the course.. the trucker "protest" is blockading cities, highways, border crossings etc better then hospitals I suppose but its just mental they just shut this shit down.

I dont think the Proud boys are Canadian but it wouldnt surprise me if there was a chapter or contingent here as well. We saw Banon propaganda panflips in my brothers fucking apartment building in Richmond which is a large city with a primarily asian population. Banon has worked his magic with a prominent chinese billionare for a little while if you want more background ill post a link..this was a little while back but you might recall reading something about this about a year ago.

Ahh it's considered American, but it's founder and a lot of founding members are Canadian for some reason.

I think people trying to bring this trucker protest to LA are in for a bad time. The Super Bowl being hosted there means there's already increased police presence, but I can see people getting very angry if the Super Bowl is delayed or if traffic in LA, which is already terrible, ends up being even worse on a day where traffic is very bad. LA road rage is scary, I'd hate to be responsible for blocking up traffic any more than anyone else because you'll make yourself a target for the many lunatics on the road there.

@Aladdin you good?

Yes, major attack after 6-7 years after things started to normalise. Timely planned attack since Australian cricket team is also on tour after decades.

A lot of bad news coming from everywhere right now

Boeing plane crashes in China. Straight nose dive into the ground

The video was maybe one of the most mental I've ever seen for a plane crash. Goes down like a brick being dropped.

I feel bad for the people on their plane. That's got to be a terrifying way to go.

Just horrifying, those poor people... Can only hope they all passed out during the nosedive and didn't have to go through those few minutes of absolute terror. RIP to the victims :(
