I had Meccano, Merkur and Fischertechnik sets among some other old Soviet ones, they were a joy and I definitely attribute my interest in technology and engineering to them Some of them were made of plastic, but some had proper metal pieces and tools, and you could build actual working models with them. Good fun.
Bluewolf
These were my toys growing up... But with them and one of these..... You got this classic... Up the nearest hill, then down again as fast as it could go until you either hit something or crashed and tipped it... No brakes, you just used your trainers to slow down on corners.. or not.. You would come home with cuts, bumps and bruises all the time.. No sissy helmets or pads for these beasts, Some of the best rides were with a mate standing on the back after giving you a push start then hurtling down the hill and swearing you can make the corner at the bottom at full pelt... Them were the days.. Not stuck indoors day after day, we were always out doing something and if we weren't building carts we were building secret hideouts in the woods or having our HQ halfway up a tree... Everything was totally dodgy and unsafe as fuck

Moderator Tommy Posted May 28, 2021 Moderator Share Posted May 28, 2021 I had a lot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys. This was one of the best: It could shoot Pizzas.
Dave
This was a cool one when I was nine. A wrestling ring that floated in the bath tub. Implying Stevie Ray can't swim on the packaging hasn't aged well though.
Azeem
I used to burn ear cotton buds, dropping the molten plastic on ant hills. I also used to make wasps and ants fight each other.

The original action men with all the weapons and a tank for them to sit in. WWF wrestling figures. Pogs. Ninja turtle figures. Also these: While most of us 80s/90s kids played with these dinosaur figures, @Bluewolf played with actual dinosaurs
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted May 29, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted May 29, 2021 Not classed as a toy really but something we all had when we were kids we played with, an old leather football, head the ball on the lace and come home with big bruises on you head or face, if it was a well-used football then the lace would be all worn and the inner poking out of the ball like a big bubble, then if it was pissing down with rain the ball became a hard soaked leather ball but we never gave a shite when we were kids, sling a couple of jumpers down for goalposts and away you would go, some of us couldn't afford footy boots so it was bare feet or your own shoes. Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted May 29, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted May 29, 2021 Just remembered, marbles, dig a wee hole in the ground or a circle with chalk on the pavement and try and win some marbles off your mates. Then you had the conker season, go around the parks and look for a conker tree, knock the conkers off, bore a hole in the middle and put a shoelace or string through it and try and smash your mate's conker, I think a conker I had was a '5a' meaning I smashed 5 conkers before my one got smashed. Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted May 31, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted May 31, 2021 Looking at one of the pictures above and what was poking out of the young lads pocket, a catapult, we all had at one at some time in our lives and easy to make, a bit of a y shaped branch of a tree, a bit of elastic and bingo, but...eventually some young lads would take the piss and smash windows with stones or get into a fight with somebody and fire a stone at the guy, I would get my arse kicked by my mum or dad if they caught me with one as they said they were bloody lethal. That picture on the right brings up great memories of my dad taking me to his office because someone had a floppy with Space Invaders on it. I looked at the screen and couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on but it looked amazing at the time.
