I agree on one thing... Whatever Boris did or didn’t do in his own home (it’s for his girlfriend to decide what actions to take and she can look at his previous for info on that) and not for people to judge even though he is a public figure going for the maximum office in the land.

Not necessarily. The police can prosecute even if the victim doesn't want them to.

That's the point though.

The media are no better than they have been over the past few years. They'll report shite for either side. Let's not act like there's spins on the other side of the argument to smear non-Tory's/Labour.

My main point was calling out a potential DV case which should be irrespective of whether it's the potential PM or not. I get people have arguments (weird if you don't) but what's the harm in erring on the side of caution, especially if you start to hear things being smashed? Maybe everyone has different standards on what's acceptable/tolerable to hear your neighbours do during an argument.

There was no Dv though the police said that, it’s blatantly politically motivated. I’ve not bothered to confirm but but I saw an article on twitter saying the guy who leaked to the Guardian was a playwright who has had funding off some EU arts council to produce an anti Brexit play. A champagne socialist soy boy by the look of him, no wonder it was the guardian the readership is almost exclusively gay men and angry lesbian feminists + Sir Balon

There may not have been any DV but how was the neighbour meant to know that at the time?

Could of listened to it rather than inform the guardian. It’s a hatchet job at this point it’s not even a question of why they did it.

Edit: apparently they torched 7 years worth of their social media last night, referred to the Tories as “lower than vermin” 😂 but yeah they really cared about a young upwardly mobile conservative aid.

Huh?

They did listen to it and called the police? It's not like they went to papers first then thought might be wise to call the police...?

Lol you don’t record it either you use your phone to ring police.

You implying they only have one phone in their house to call the police/record? Come on man don't be so naive!

It's been known that recordings from public have helped in DV cases as evidence. If you're condemning them for recording a potential DV incident because they heard some disconcerting and worrying behaviour from their neighbours house then I give up.

No I wouldn’t condem them for contacting police.

But contacting the papers after police found no issue and particularly the paper they went to considering who the person involved was then I’d suggest it was politically motivated.

As I said above though Johnson is Leave, Hunt is remain. You will now have a month of trying to dig up absolutely any muck they can to sling at him for a month, eventually you will have what you have with Corbyn. Johnson followers will just stop listening and the result will be deeper divisions.

Yeah and that goes back to the 'spin' I mentioned a few days ago from both sides. Are you telling me there won't be a time of digging up shit about Hunt from the 'Leave' papers/media and sling that at him?

The whole thing is just a bubble of hypocrisy, those defending Johnson would be lapping this up if it were Corbyn et al. On the other hand those who are baying for blood would most likely be saying it was nothing and invasion of privacy if it were a politician they favour.

I don't like to live in a society where people contact the media at the same as police, always looking for an angle, but we've got that society. In terms of Johnson, this barely registers on the list of horrendous things he's said or done.

I don't get the coverage this is getting to be honest. They were having an argument, neighbours called the police and the police checked it out. All sounds like it went how it should go. You could say the neighbours overreacted but it's not something that I think they should be demonised for. Overall it's not much of a story.

We should concentrate on how shit both Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt would be as PM.

Does it matter if it's done because they don't like him?

It's the type of skeleton in the closet politicians ideally shouldn't have because attacks on their character are always a significant risk.

The same could just as easily happen to Corbyn or Farage or even Merkel.

I do find that aspect pretty much the most sickening of all debate these days.

Yes it does matter, in an ideal scenario all media should be impartial and not pushing various agendas, why do you think we’re seeing such polarisation and fracturing of society?

I vote conservative mainly because I’m libertarian, but I do have sympathy with traditional labour values. You used to be able to have common discourse in public but now it’s just screeching and tribalism.

Regardless of  what’s happening with Johnson (who I didn’t want btw) the precedent is the problem it’s gutter politics, I’m the same for Corbyn really I couldn’t give a fuck where he sticks his dick I care about what they plan to do in power.

I think the Tory press going into all-out attack mode on the couple ended up backfiring and made the entire thing into a giant saga, when basically the tape was his girlfriend calling him a spoiled posh boy, which everyone already thought anyway.

The bigger story is the worrying fact that several of our biggest newspapers are apparently blindly devoted to Johnson, and are willing to chase down and harass any private citizen who embarrasses the future PM, who has been picked almost without resistance by a tiny ruling elite.

No other politician in the country commands anything like that kind of loyalty among the media class.

Yeah, it really makes a mockery of the notion of a left leaning press

  • 4 weeks later...

Well he'll be the one more associated than anyone else in history as the man behind brexit. Could well result in him going down in history as one of the worst PM's.... Will be interesting to see if that influences his perspective now he's achieved his ambition of landing the job, or if he continues to run hard and fast towards the edge of the cliff.
