  5. We do this with any roast we do to help the potatoes cook really crisply, too. Nothing worse when it comes to roasts when the potatoes aren't done right. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Beautiful. Duck and pancakes is essential for any Chinese we go for. Stuff myself with it before getting on to the other courses . Lots of hoisin sauce, bit of cucumber, lots of duck. Perfect. I love the way they cook their pancakes too.

  6. Like, never? I like duck a lot, it tastes more like red meat (steak!) than poultry, but it can be a bit too fatty sometimes - not the meat itself, but there's a rather thick layer of fat right under the skin, so it can be quite challenging to make sure it's crispy yet not overcooked... That said, duck fat is also amazing. I usually save it after roasting the duck and use it later for stuff like fried potatoes... tastes like heaven. If you have a good Chinese restaurant near you, I'd highly recommend trying Peking duck. It's too hard to pull off at home, but when it's done properly, it's nothing short of amazing.

  7. The reporting in media worldwide has been nothing short of mass psychosis though. A NeW rEcoRd!!! KiLleR vIruS BrInGz DeATh!!! Well guess what, it's been going on for over 10 months already; reporting new numbers and spinning endless articles about how long the virus survives on a plastic packaging in the freezer at -18 degrees does absolutely nothing anymore now that it has spread everywhere; other than make people more annoyed and feed into their fears and insecurities.

  8. I think he is very much knocking on the door. More than a replacement though, I think he gives us genuine rotation options with all 3 up top, something we havent had in a long time.

  12. We slow-cooked lamb shanks for Easter once, but my contribution to that was watching someone who's a professional cook do it, so I'm not much of a help there

  15. Brilliant that, to think Voyager 2 was launched in 1977, went to sleep and now NASA has woken it up again. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Voyager 2 https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/missions/voyager-2/in-depth/ Terminations and future of the probe Voyager 2 is not headed toward any particular star, although in roughly 42,000 years it will pass 1.7 light-years from the star Ross 248. And if undisturbed for 296,000 years, Voyager 2 should pass by the star Sirius at a distance of 4.3 light-years. Voyager 2 is expected to keep transmitting weak radio messages until at least the mid-2020s, more than 48 years after it was launched. As the power from the RTG slowly reduces, various items of equipment have been turned off on the spacecraft. The first science equipment turned off on Voyager 2 was the PPS in 1991, which saved 1.2 watts. 20. I'm not sure exactly what this means, they want us to go and get tested but we're not obliged? If it means there's a better chance of us getting the pubs back open for Christmas then i'll be forcing my neighbours down there.

  21. The entire population of the COVID-19 hotspot city of Liverpool will be regularly offered a coronavirus test in a pilot scheme using the armed forces. The city, which has been under Tier 3 restrictions for nearly three weeks and has one of the highest coronavirus rates in England at 366.4 cases per 100,000, volunteered for the scheme, which will start on Friday. The scheme will use new, rapid turnaround tests, with 2,000 members of the military working alongside NHS staff, and everyone living or working in the city offered repeat testing - even if asymptomatic. Residents and workers will be tested using a combination of existing swab tests, as well as 500,000 new lateral flow tests, which can rapidly turn around results within an hour without the need to be processed in a lab. People will be able to book a test online, by walking into a test centre, or by invitation from the city council. Tests will be carried out at new and existing test sites, using home kits, in hospitals, care homes, schools, universities and workplaces.

  22. I can't see a situation in this election where America isn't divided as fuck and in turmoil. Trump wins, I predict 4 years of turmoil. Biden wins, I predict an absolutely insane 3 months until his inauguration. And then probably 4 years of turmoil. Seeing these Vanilla ISIS types yesterday was pretty eye opening, and that was after we'd seen the news one of these "Trump trains" had actually tried to run members of the Biden campaign off the road. I can't imagine what tomorrow actually holds in store for the US. I bet it's not good, though.

  25. A recent example from my neck of woods: Headline of the article: "New daily infections record! Situation critical: country's largest hospital running out of beds" Actual situation, if you bother searching for and reading actual official reports: 102 covid patients in the hospital in question, 8 of them in ICU. 415 hospitalised with 35 of them in ICU in the whole bloody country. Important detail: 42% of total beds in ICU and 70% of total oxygen beds in the country still unused. The dumb thing is, the information that actually matters isn't being reported, and you have to look for a while in order to find it. Reporting factual, not emotionally charged information doesn't sell I guess, so let's just spread fear and panic instead by printing sensationalised headlines and then wonder why people go crazy. It seems even the "reputable" (arguably) media sources have reached the bottom of tabloid-level shitpits lately.

  26. Too late. It was OK, the duck was tender and juicy, the apples inside were caramelised nicely, the oven roasted potatoes were great, but I didn't really like the sauce. Too sweet & sour for my liking, but then I also don't like wine or honey in the first place, so I don't know what I was even thinking when I decided to make it Here's a pic from the last time I made it. Pardon the cutting, I realised I didn't have poultry scissors or even the carving fork, so had to butcher it with a knife.

  28. There's a little part of me that wants Trump to win just to simply see the outrage that'd happen. As for that Lady Gaga clip, that's the sort of thing that'd put me off voting for Biden more than anything.

  29. Sounds pretty fucked up, a lot like the coordinated attack in Paris tbh. To continue the fucked up news around the world, Kabul University was stormed by gunmen, 19 dead and at least 22 wounded.
