  1. Biden isn't exciting by any means, but he's probably the guy they needed to put up against Trump. Looking at the way this election has panned out, it's a major relief they didn't put someone like Sanders up against Trump because it would have panned out the same as Johnson vs Corbyn in December and condemned the USA to another 4 years of dangerous and divisive populism. When you're up against the candidate of chaos, you need to take the non-chaotic line and Biden fits that bill. Would have been better if he was 10 years younger and had a bit more sparkle left in him but it looks like it's enough this time. The speech he just made was probably the best I've heard from him. Clearly casting himself as a moderate, compassionate leader who wants to govern the whole country properly rather than egregiously running the country in a way that rewards the people who voted for him and upsets his "enemies".

  2. The VP becomes the deciding vote in all ties. It was to be expected. COVID and masks became a political discussion, and Biden supporters were told to mail in votes, to which they did.

  3. The difference is that when it comes to violence or radicalism Castro is nowhere near Hitler. Castro was more legitimate and less oppressive than any of the darlings of the USA in Latin America like Pinochet, Stroeßner, or Videla. Furthermore, his achievements came against an overwhelming tide of international economic resistance which the economies of the Condor regimes did not have to contend with. It is not controversial to most Americans to have supported any of those guys, so Castro shouldn't be controversial in the slightest. And in any case it's a moot discussion, because whether you have Bernie or Biden, a hysterically anti-communist demographic like the Miami Cubans will always go with a right-wing strongman. The entire reason they're in Florida is because the masses in Cuba overthrew their precious right-wing dictatorship. There's no use pandering to them because they are so consumed by hate and paranoia that they are a political lost cause.

  4. We have Medicare in Australia. Everyone has it. You can pay extra for private health insurance which will cover you for dental and physio and get your access to a private hospital, but everyone has Medicare and can visit doctors for free, get medicine for cheap, have every issue covered and not be out of pocket much at all. We looked at Obamacare thinking it was pretty light on in comparison.

  5. It's astonishing how many voters both the Republicans and Conservatives in the UK still manage to keep on side because they're "the party of Christianity" when in reality it's the Democrats and Labour parties who want to do things like feed starving children and provide access to healthcare to those who can't afford the extortionate costs of it for themselves. It's almost as if they're using religion as an excuse to vote for an "I'm Alright, Jack" party that basically allows them to be more selfish but who am I to say.

  6. Why would people come out to vote Trump? I’m talking about these people that have never voted before? I can understand people saying “yeah, I know I didn’t vote before but fuck 4 years of this shit”. However, it seems to be “Hey, I didn’t care last time, but now I really do want to get dicked over!”

  12. The wonders of Steam. 76% positive rating and developed by Boobs Dev. Not sure if you've heard of a developer initiative in the past called Steam Greenlight, whereby small developers could get a chance to shine on the Steam storefront. Unfortunately, it got littered with asset flips and utter shite, though a couple of random ones did slip through the cracks. I think there was one called What's Under Your Blanket? (which was literally a game about having a wank) and this cracker. https://store.steampowered.com/app/526370/SUPER_KINKY/

  18. Arizona isn't finished yet either, only Fox have called that for Biden, but those three states wrap it up for Biden if he holds the lead, yes. They won't call any of the states until enough votes, in person or mail votes, have been counted to leave the result beyond any doubt.

  19. I agree. My wife doesn't like politics at all, whereas I love it, so when we did ours, we talked about the each thing and then made our vote separately. I do think she matched my ballot 100%, but the mail-in ballot is certainly easier for those who don't keep up with ongoing politics or due their research to see what's going to be on the ballot

  20. I think some sorting machines were also dismantled. They actually closed my local post office here after the budget cuts! My wife's ballot was received a few weeks ago and was counted... but she only had it mailed to her and then she dropped it off at our local library (all public libraries in the county were where the official ballot dropoff boxes were. I do think having a ballot tracker is a pretty cool thing - mailing ballots seems to be a pretty good way for voters to vote. My wife could just google shite for the local candidates/propositions/local measures she wasn't sure on how she wanted to vote, look at who supported what & who paid what and could get pretty good breakdowns. There is an awful lot on these ballots, I was pretty surprised by that the first time I saw her get one in the mail. And a lot of the things people vote on are, tbh, things you don't really hear about until the misleading campaign ads come out. I imagine voting in person doesn't lead to as informed voting as voting from home does.

  21. Yes, their should always be a blank space for write ins. Kayne West got a handful of votes in Iowa I believe, all of which were write ins, and there is no VP candidate the votes don't choose the VP, the President does. If Kayne West had won, he could pick his wife as VP

  22. Yeah, lazy from me. What I meant was Hitler was so unfathomably bad that "not as bad as Hitler" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Good news from Wisconsin. I was worried this morning when Milwaukee was all in and Biden still only had a very narrow lead

  23. Mine got it, as you can check online. So Trump and his appointed Post Master General defund the USPS, and now they are upset that they don't have enough staff to handle in influx of mail in ballots.

  25. I think Stalin's got a higher death count & the 3 Paschas (spelling?) from the Ottoman Empire & Pol Pot in Cambodia are pretty up there on the list of genocidal fuckheads from fairly recent history. Tbh that sounds a lot like Los Angeles Iranians. Before meeting some of them, I'd never met any Iranian immigrant that supported crippling sanctions on Iran or outright bombing Iran - pretty much all of them hate the regime in Iran, but nobody wants to do that to their friends and family that are still back home. Not so true about the Tehrangeles Iranians I met, who were actually pretty keen on the idea of bombing their homeland. But one of the guys I met claimed to be the grandson of the former head of SAVAK (which kind of disgusted me the way he said it with pride)... they're people who desperately want the Iranian monarchy to come back and think that's the best future for Iran. Whereas in the Persian community back home, people I know that DID like the Shah accept that he was/is unpopular with large segments and if there's to be a better future for Iran it'll come with ditching authoritarians altogether rather than going back to the old style of a slightly less repressive authoritarian. And those LA Persians I know ALL voted Trump. Which makes sense if you like the Shah, I think Trump and the Shah have a lot in common. Weirdly, I think Pence would get on pretty well with Khomeini/Khameini and other Iranian hardliners from the present day This is encouraging... ... but why hasn't Wisconsin officially been declared then? Is the website I'm looking at just not updating?

  27. At least nobody got shot and the weird voter suppression caravans were only confined to one day over the weekend. Yesterday could have gone worse, even though it should have gone better. Regardless of whether Trump loses or not, I still can’t help but feel America’s failed a character test here.

  30. Mate Biden Obama and Clinton aren't very left wing, if you placed them into Australian politics they may even sit in our conservative party... The Sanders/AOC wing of the Dems is quite extreme but the establishment Dems have not been giving much ground to them.

  36. A few things. 1) Most commentators have said it would take the biggest polling error in modern electoral history for Biden not to win this. It was one thing when it happened in 2016, but pollsters adapted their models in response to this and still Trump has got a vote share as much as 10% better as the polls suggested in some states. That's simply unprecedented and maybe it'll get diluted when they finish counting the postal votes in the states that have already declared but in the absence of an explanation for why that many people changed their minds in the blink of an eye, I'm just putting it out there that the best mathematicians and statistical modellers in the world, people who have been doing this their whole lives, don't get things this wrong, not after how wrong they got it in 2016. We know there's been voter suppression but it looks to me that either a lot more of that has gone on than anyone predicted or something even sinister has happened because these results completely defy any logic compared to the polling that has consistently told a very different story, literal thousands of polls with different samples over the course of several months. 2) We shouldn't need to have this conversation. I know Biden isn't an overwhelmingly good candidate in his own right and he might still win but America should be ashamed of itself right now. It's one thing voting Trump in once when he was making reasonable-sounding promises and offering something alternative but the phrase "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" comes to mind. This guy's been in the White House for 4 years now. You know what he's about. It's absolutely staggering that close enough to half of the population has voted for him again and given him the opportunity to skirt around actual democracy by getting the Supreme Court involved. I mean the man's a walking parody, a cartoon character gone wrong. What's wrong with you? 3) The only thing worse than Trump getting back in is all of the nonces on social media or at work who don't actually know anything about politics but have belligerently insisted "Trump will win again" in the face of any credible evidence, aside from "it happened last time". You know the types. The morons who spew any old bollocks on any topic they know nothing about because they get it right 1 in 50 times, think they're a Nostradamus because one of their stupid guesses came true and just pretend the other 49 never happened. Hopefully enough of the uncounted votes in Michigan and Wisconsin will be enough to stop America from having completely shat the bed here but with Trump's comments about an hour ago it doesn't look like that'll matter.

  40. Jota has to start against City. He's on fire and his form is good I'd capitalize on that and bring Bobby on in the second half or start him and Bobby together with either Salah or Mane coming on later. I like Jota in the role he played yesterday but I think he can do just as good a job down the left hand side with Robbo working besides him to push past defenses.

  41. It’s hard to keep Jota out of the side if he’s scoring. Especially after he looked really good with Mane and Salah. Klopp loves Firmino. And so do I. So he’s got tough choices to make. But it’s nice being able to call on either Jota/Firmino as a substitute, so pretty cool situation to be in. I’d guess Bobby starts against City though, probably was rested just for that.
