  1. That's what annoys me every time when I hear yet another story of some dog attacking and biting someone "unexpectedly" and "without reason", only to find out that the said dog was pretty much neglected, kept outside in a kennel or even worse, chained, and mostly isolated, with lack of interaction and proper training; especially when it's one of the strong-willed, high-maintenance, boundless energy breeds that are known for needing a lot of daily exercise, socialisation and general attention.

  4. Depends on the dog... I have had 3 German Shepherds in my lifetime and all of them were outdoor dogs and by that I mean we didn't keep them outside just that they enjoyed the run of the garden so we built a big kennel round the side of the house and they spent most of their time in there.. They would come and go in and out of the house in the summer when the doors are mostly open but if they had something like a football kicked over from next doors they would run off with it to the kennel and would be buggers to get in, even at night.. Mooms our Staffie is an indoor dog mostly but in the summer she loves to go to the back of the garden and sit in the sun getting a tan.. if you leave one of the garden deckchairs out there she will lounge on it until she gets too hot then goes and has a lay in the shade until she cools off.. I don't think there is anything wrong with having an outdoor dog if it's a guard dog on a property/site for example but as @nudge said they are pack animals and will always prefer to be around people if it's a family pet..

  5. Just took this picture (with phone) of Orion constellation, with the line of 3 stars and other stars above and below, just above and to the right of the chimney. Very clear night sky tonight.

  7. That's right they can.. but remember if they are going to be mostly in isolation away from others then they may tend to become territorial seeing the area they are kept in as being theirs to defend against intruders which is not a good recipe if you have kids around...

  8. I mean, most of the dog breeds can definitely adapt to it, especially if provided with adequate shelter, but the question is, why would you want to do it for a pet dog? It's different with working dogs; people in the countryside keep them for protection of their property and livestock from wild animals and potential human intruders, so they have to be kept outside for that reason, but I don't know why anyone would like to do it to a companion dog...

  22. Looking at these numbers, if we had the testing and contact tracing capacity and the knowledge of the virus that we do now, I think it's actually conceivable that you could have more or less eliminated the virus with quarantine, early lockdowns and precautions such as masks and social distancing. Nonetheless, I'm in awe of the science we have at our disposal and the treatments and vaccines that have been developed in the space of a year, which is still a relatively short amount of time. You just hope that firstly, it's a long, long time before we face something like this again, but if it isn't, we can put the lessons learned over the past year into action and prevent a lot more damage.

  23. I don't mean to pick on anyone or catch anyone out here, so sorry if I quoted you, especially TAD who apologised a few posts later. I just had a sudden urge to look back at the conversations we were having a year ago, sort of inspired by the On This Day Covid account on Twitter a few people I know are aware of. The way I remember it, we were starting to process the significance of this by the time we got into February. Really we still had no idea. These are all posts from a year ago today. Italy had 2 confirmed cases. 5 weeks later they were in a national lockdown.

  27. Yeah, I don't have a problem with Matip as 4th choice. You can't rely on him for a run of games, but the odd one here and there is no problem and you know he'll put in a good performance as @Dr. Gonzo said. Even third choice I'd be happy with as long as we have a fourth choice as well I do wonder if we'll try and shift someone in the summer though. I maintain 4 is a perfectly normal number of centre backs to have... but 5 is starting to get a bit crowded, and we know Klopp likes to keep a smaller squad. Matip's the obvious one in that regard for me given his age
