There are some very ignorant journalists making comments about "this is the first war in my lifetime carried out against a civilised country". The responses, quite rightly, are this meme except "civilised" and "uncivilised" instead of these captions. Needless to say, these journalists aren't the ones out there in Ukraine and other nations reporting from the front lines.4 points

I’d personally step in and chin any cunt giving someone abuse for being Russian. This is solely Putin. Fuck all to do with anyone else. You’ve got to be the most uneducated fuckwit to even think of abusing anyone because of that. Same with Chinese/Covid.2 points

Yeah some of what the media has said as to why they care more about this conflict than others manage to be both cringe as fuck while also managing to come off as overtly racist. Honestly, it seems like every couple of weeks western media does something that just makes me shake my head and roll my eyes. Trump called Putin a genius for his invasion. People who think he’d stop this rather than just blow Putin are probably the same people who think that Trump is some kind of undercover pedo hunter… I think it’s funny Roman Abramovich has come forward saying he is trying to broker peace. But he’s one of Russia’s oligarchs that hasn’t come forward and condemned the war (and quite a few have). I’m pretty sure that’s just PR, but I do wonder if he’s feeling a bit guilty right now as he had a pretty big part to play in Putin’s rise.2 points

It's happening already in the US. Death threats to an owners of various Russian restaurants/international markets that sell Russian stuff. This is the biggest problem with cultures that become obsessed with "identity politics" - they use various identities, like in this instance national/ethnic identity, to make wide sweeping allegations about everyone who might fall into that identity. Fear of the "other" is a powerful tool to manipulate people. Russian students abroad are just trying to get the best possible education they can get so they can give themselves the best shot in life, most Russians who live outside Russia fucking hate Putin and he's one of the reasons they left. It's very sad to see innocent people demonised because of the actions of an autocratic piece of shit like Putin. The actions of his government do not speak for all Russians, particularly not those Russians who've left Russia. Having said that, I understand why Russian clubs (especially the ones who have ties to state-ownership, or those that are outright state-owned) have been banned in this instance. And yes, I do think it's hypocritical considering when similar things happen elsewhere in the world, we don't see calls for the US, UK, NATO nations, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc... to be banned. And perhaps we should be calling for more international pressure to be applied in a similar fashion when world peace is brutally violated by various nations around the world. I think that's entirely reasonable to ask for. There's one thing the world should show continued unity for and that's peace - I don't think it's a bad thing that the world is attempting to economically punish Russia for this, I think that's a hell of a lot better than escalating tensions in a way that'll likely lead to WW3.1 point

Said something similar recently. When Palestine was being defended in sport after Israel's actions, any of those defences were vehemently criticised. Even taking flags on to the pitch as part of celebrations or having them in the stands by fans was wildly lambasted. Not saying that Ukraine/Ukrainians shouldn't have had any level of support/backing, but there is somewhat of a double standard appearing...1 point

Ukrainian film director and producer Alexander Rodnyansky also confirmed Abramovich's involvement, insisting the Chelsea owner was the only person to respond to calls for help. Rodnyansky has claimed that representatives from Ukraine's government have expressed gratitude for Abramovich's attempts at help. "I can confirm that the Ukrainian side have been trying to find someone in Russia willing to help them in finding a peaceful resolution," said Rodnyansky. They are connected to Roman Abramovich through the Jewish community and reached out to him for help. "Roman Abramovich has been trying to mobilize support for a peaceful resolution ever since. Although Roman Abramovich's influence is limited, he is the only one who responded and taken it upon himself to try. "If this will have an impact or not, I don't know, but I am in contact with Zelensky's staff myself, and know that they are grateful for his genuine effors."1 point

Just can’t get into them myself. Each to their own though. Definitely more lovely parts of the female body…1 point

This is from Oliver Stone in 2016 very interesting and shows outside forces trying to destabilise Ukraine. My take is Ukraine should split, it is clear there are two very strong idealogies and they are poles apart.1 point

Yeah meeting my friends Simon and Garfunkle there, hopefully it's going to be a peaceful break and I can enjoy the sounds of silence. Seriously though I'm actually looking forward to packing my walking gear and enjoying a trip to the coast to have a scenic British trip for once, this is gonna be a more active break than my usual sun holidays. Gonna book end of July abroad hopefully, fancied Turkey myself. Anyone got any Turkey recommendations? Done oludeniz, loved it. Open to new areas.1 point

The stationed troops are simply not significant enough in size and capability to launch a meaningful ground invasion. The NATO countries bordering Russia have far larger land armies of their own than the troops that exist there under NATO banners. It's token gesture placements not invasion forces. If any NATO country were to be defended or invade it wouldn't be done off stationed troops. That's surely clear for all to see. If you want to be picky and argue there's enough Americans, British and French there to take some nearby farms then fine. Finland is a good example of the nonsense that is spouted about the "threat" of being a NATO member. Finland is a stronger force than most individual states in NATO, they have national service, they buy weapons from NATO and train with NATO. They are members of the European Union. Yet they are not in NATO. As they say they are not a neutral country. The Finns hate Russia and Putin as much as anyone else on this earth. It makes absolutely no military or strategic difference whether they are in NATO or not, yet they are threatened this week with "consequences" if they join. Putin has no legitimate reason to consider Finland in NATO as any form of increased risk to Russia. In Putin we have a megalomaniac with an outdated world view that belongs in the 1940s. Why the fuck do we bend over backwards to "understand where he's coming from" we should be tearing down how much of a moron this guy is.1 point

My brother, this isn't fictional. The love and desire started at an early age. 100% the latter.1 point
