Pretty much my sentiments exactly. Don’t even feel like anyone has had the opportunity to meet my little man either. He’s 6 months in a couple of weeks and hardly met any strangers.

Most parents keep their kids away from strangers.

Are you Jimmy in disguise...

That's the other aspect of it the family and friends... We don't see the Grandkids much and my eldest couldn't come over for Christmas this year either so xmas was a bit of a non starter for us.. Going to be the best part of half a year yet before we might see any changes as well..

I’m talking literally like when out and about you bell xD. He’s not even met all of the family yet!!!

I think it would be good for us all mentally if we took turns punching Stan in the face... Can't vouch for you guys but I know I would feel better for it, I would have a really good incentive for getting out and about ( my daily exercise and all that ) and would have a really positive outlook on things for the rest of the week...

I will be honest and say that the whole thing has felt like it's taken it's toll a bit on me.. Normally I have a fairly upbeat outlook in general even if tings are going a bit tits but admit I have not been at my best at times at all and the whole thing has just got everyone down in general and I have been lucky to be able to keep on working throughout the whole thing as well which lot's of other people have been unable to do.. so bugger knows how I would be feeling with little to no money coming in and not many job opportunities knocking about either..

I don't think anyone can underestimate the toll it takes on your health, mental wellbeing and physical state...

I've been in and out of work since April, but will admit that recently it's been more because I've felt physically ran down and I haven't been in the right mind frame, although there are jobs about, so I need to get back to it I'd say.

Before Christmas I completed a Spanish teaching course online, obtained a distinction for it and my plan was to continue working in construction while gaining experience volunteering as a Spanish teaching assistant for a few hours a week (either at the uni, or a local language school in town) and gradually improve my working life but obviously that will have to wait due to restrictions. So there are plans for the future atleast.

You've done the right thing in staying at work mate. Work is a farce that we all moan about, but it gives you the normality you need and helps distract the mind. It also keeps you active.

That's another thing mate, kids need normality at whatever age.

Even at school, it's not just education, but the social aspect. Not socialising as a teenager and sitting in all the time can create social anxiety quite easily. It starts to feel "normal" to sit in all day.

I agree, for not introducing me to that friend of his all those years ago....

I also have to wonder how the hell Australia have isolated the virus this much. 7 new cases again today. I know they had harsh lockdowns but we've seen them in other places where it didn't work. Fair play to them. I wish we were like that but it's tougher in Canada with how cold it gets.

They shut their state borders quite rapidly I think. Any new case within is immediately located and state border is shut. So they contain it very, very quickly.

Can the government get any lower with that "look into my eyes" advert? Wow, they really get worse in this country. They are sick.

The father Christmas in a hospital bed over Christmas was even worse. Sick people, trying to blame the public for their own fuck ups while many people have sacrificed their mental, physical and financial well being.

What a disgusting country this is.

Yeah they're just unbelievably tone deaf. I know they've gone for shock factor but they've probably pissed off a fuck load of people. Especially as it probably is still the minority that have gone overboard in breaking the rules? Not saying none of the public are to blame, but government have to cop some responsibility too, something which they shy away from doing at any given opportunity. Embarrassing, really.

You can see here that ONS suggest public compliance remains high. Long article but the main points:

This week, over the period 13 to 17 January 2021, based on adults in Great Britain:

  • Quote

    • Compliance with most measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) remained high, with the same proportion as last week reporting always or often handwashing after returning home (90%), using a face covering (96%) and avoiding physical contact when outside their home (93%).
    • The proportion of adults reporting staying at home or only leaving for work, exercise, essential shopping or medical needs in the past seven days continued to increase, to 65% of adults this week; the highest proportion reporting this since May 2020.
    • The proportion of working adults that have worked from home was at its highest since June 2020; 45% this week compared with 43% last week.
    • Personal well-being scores for life satisfaction, feeling that things done in life are worthwhile and happiness remained at some of the lowest levels recorded since this survey began in March 2020; however, there was a small improvement in the anxiety score.
    • The proportion of adults who felt that it will take more than a year for life to return to normal (25%) continued to slowly rise this week and is now slightly higher than those who feel life will return to normal in six months or less (22%).
    • Around 1 in 14 (7%) adults reported they had already received at least partial COVID-19 vaccination while just under 9 in 10 (87%) reported they had not yet been offered the COVID-19 vaccine; around 1 in 20 (5%) said that they had been offered it and were awaiting it and 1 in 100 (1%) said that they had been offered it but declined it.
    • Amongst adults who had not already received or been offered COVID-19 vaccination, those that reported they would either be very likely or fairly likely to have the COVID-19 vaccine if offered seemed to increase with age: 81% of those aged between 16 and 29 years reported this, 86% of adults aged 30 to 49 years, 94% of adults aged 50 to 69 years and 98% of adults aged 70 years and above; this was a similar trend to previous weeks of the survey.
    • Of adults who said they would be unlikely (either fairly or very unlikely) to have the COVID-19 vaccine if offered, or had decided not to have the vaccine when offered, the most commonly reported reasons why not were: feeling worried about the long-term effects on their health (43%), feeling worried about the side effects (42%) and wanting to wait to see how well the vaccine works (40%); this was similar to previous weeks of the survey.

Yet polling shows the public are increasingly blaming each other more than the government for the increases in cases, deaths, hospitalisations.

It's a stark reminder that British people don't need to be asked twice to get cross at each other and blame each other for stuff. A real shame and arguably a product of years of grooming by popular newspapers to scapegoat each other for all the bad in our lives. Our media including social media are a lot more likely to project stories about people having house parties or breaking the rules than they are to go on at length about the government bringing in or lifting restrictions at the wrong times. I don't know if it's the same in other countries or whether they show a bit more solidarity.

That said, there isn't a lack of acknowledgement that the government have handled the crisis poorly.

And this is accentuated by the government actively advising neighbours to report each other to Police should there be a break in the rules...

What the hell is Europe doing with the vaccines? Some countries on track to take 4 years to get the job done.

Are governments fucking things up or is this just how lucky we are to have the NHS? Or a bit of both?

Has a lot to do with the manufacturer, including Oxford-AstraZenica, not providing enough vaccine at the agreed time. Has much more to do with empty promises towards European governments and the EU from pharmaceutical industry than with the NHS being so efficient.

Guy who killed Lee Rigby in hospital with Covid. I understand doctors have to treat without prejudice but with the NHS stretched to breaking point you do have to wonder if certain crimes should warrant refusal of treatment.

Please tell me you wrote this without thinking it trough. You surely can't be serious?
