Momentum supposedly with Trump right now with him gaining on Harris in the polls. Harris still ahead by one or two percent but things might be timing themselves perfectly for Trump.

Don't think Kamala Harris is impressive in the slightest but how such a politically clumsy dumbass has had US politics revolving around him for so long is crazy.

The race is a coin toss. I think ultimately Trump will win. The covid backlash is coming for democrats who have not called out enough of the overreach and media excess that occurred, and continue to pretend that the only bad thing about the pandemic was Trump.

The US media fucking loves Trump because he’s good for their ratings - you’d never know it because he bitches and moans about “fake news”, but they’re the ones promoting his second candidacy better than he is.

I don’t think Covid is really an issue in this election at all. Aftershocks of Covid are, things like inflation… but the American electorate isn’t smart enough to really associate that with Covid.

Identity politics are driving this election honestly. It’s hardly a battle of politicians and their policies.

Trump's campaign seems to be getting a lot of attention and while he still comes across as an idiot it's not necessarily bad attention. He's just going on popular podcasts where he doesn't have to do much and the hosts just suck him off.

Harris just seems to be trying to do what Clinton did which to be uncontroversial, boring, and represent the status quo that no one relates to.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Trump ends up winning this.

She's so awkward and her tone is so erratic. Not a great speaker. Also took one of the things people make fun of Trump for by letting everyone know Obama was doing it first and it's something she wants to expand on...

People viewing Trump as a total clown must be the only thing she's relying on.

Prepare for Trump to win. I think that's quite likely at this point. Probably a 70% chance. Very regrettable that Bidens unpopular VP was the only possible choice able to be fielded by the late point at which Biden stepped aside.

I know America isn't great, and for a proper leftie or anyone who thinks Israel has crossed the line by about 200 million miles, etc. (okay any normal person), Harris and the Democrats aren't perfect or even particularly good, but I really don't like the "they're all shit" narrative. Harris is nowhere near as bad as Trump for the USA or the rest of the Western world at the end of the day. If you don't like her then fine, but come on, if someone offered me the choice of stubbing my toe or having my feet chopped off then my response wouldn't be "well they're both just horrible!"

They're all shit, but one is objectively less shit than the other. America's got a fucked up and (imho) stupid political system - it's not particularly democratic and the places with the highest populations get their votes watered down on a national level. But if they've got a choice between two shit choices, and one is objectively less shit than the other... it makes sense for people to want the objectively less shit option.

Especially when the US is a superpower and its actions cause a ripple effect around the world. Trump was objectively bad for the western world. And he wasn't great for the Middle East either - he needlessly fanned flames across the region when he declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel, getting absolutely nothing in return for it. Him tearing up anuclear deal was a huge negative for the region and for people around the world who have any hopes of ending nuclear proliferation (although I think Russia's invasion of Ukraine throws that out the window tbh). In effect, it encouraged a government that has no love for the west and basically no trust in the west to pull back from any attempts at diplomacy, pushed them to ideological hardlines, and had them push their proxies to put the region into chaos for over a year.

The US isn't a bubble isolated from the rest of the world. All the big world powers are interfering with one another in hopes of coming out on top in a game of zero-sum capitalism. Someone like Trump in power just pushes instability - not just in the US, but all over the world.

For a more stable world, Trumpism needs to die in the US and this far right push that seems to have traction in virtually every western country needs to be taken very seriously because Trump, like Brexit, shows there are very real and serious consequences to far right populist rhetoric.

Hopefully it's not like the last US presidential election where it takes days for them to finally figure out who's won.

And that's exactly how the Democrats are able to be awful, they only have to be 'less shit' than possibly the worst president of all time (maybe fifth), they just have to be a little less fascisty than Project 2025. The ratchet effect is real and the Democrats have no incentive from the Republicans to shift towards the left, and their voting constituency gives them no reason to have to enact any actual policies that help people because they put no pressure on the Democrats to actually do anything outside of 'not be Republican'. It's not a stubbed toe vs chopped off, it's a chopped off and bleeding out now, vs chopped off but the toe is being staunched so you bleed out over a few days.

It's just delaying this shit by a few years and people let it happen because they are scared if they demand more from the Democrats the Republicans will sweep in.

Democrats still support Israel
They still build a border wall
They still mistreat immigrants and put kids in cages
They let Roe v Wade die under their presidency
They still constantly stack their senates with conservative voters that will knock down legislation they promise to
They still bail out mega corps instead of helping people
They don't address education, they don't address medical health, they don't address the income inequality gap, they don't protect women or minorities, what do the Democrats do beside run on Republican politics from two election cycles prior?

Trump is truly awful and I don't him to win at all, but damage control isn't democratic, and the Democrats are truly awful.

American analists, especially those in the progressive camp, have a completely distorted image of latinos.

Latin americans are way more conservative and religious than north americans.

And those latinos who immigrate to Florida are in general even more right-wing than the average.
