And that is the danger in any football match of putting all your eggs in the ultra defensive basket. One small slip and it's 0-1.

Had high hopes for this Championship. Not a massive fan of internationals, but you’ve got to get up for the major tournaments. Then I watched this Turkey team. Fucking disgraceful.

Wait for Scotland. We will redeem international football altogether !

0-2, Immobile scores the rebound, Italy were queueing up in the box. Turkey look as if they had no Plan B for if they conceded a goal, and as others have noted they look like their legs have gone after 60 minutes (earlier for some).

Should we be surprised though? Strategically speaking, Turkey have two potentially winnable games against Wales and Switzerland, and under the new format 3 points is probably enough to go through in 3rd place to the last 16. If that's how they're looking at the group, this could be seen as a dead rubber for them with a 0-0 draw merely a bonus point. Something to look out for in quite a few of the groups really, where there's a clear winner and the other 3 teams know there's a good chance that 2 of them will go through.

For tonight though, Italy have been impressive, and Turkey, up to this point, a bit of a wet fart.

I’ve got no problems with teams setting up to contain opposition and play on the counter when it’s done right but when it just doesn’t work, it just makes the team attempting it look terrible.

That said, it’s been a joy to watch Italy’s walking football side knock it about for fun with a 70 year old Chiellini at the back.

I know Turkey have been quite underwhelming but are Italy improved because of their heavy backing in the stands?

Interesting to see how the other games with hosts at their own grounds pan out...

I don't really rate Turkey, they are a decent side, but not a tier 1 or tier 2 European national team. Italy and Switzerland should be the teams qualifying from this group.

Turkey are dreadful. How can you have that many players in the box defending, and none are anywhere near the ball?

And again...

This has been so comfortable since Italy scored. The keeper especially is horrendous passing out from the back.

The goal difference could be damaging for Turkey too, not just in the group but if they're a 3rd placed team with say 3 points, the manner of this defeat could cost them a spot in the next round.

How did Turkey recently won qualifiers against Holland scoring like three four goals !?

Mancini deserves credit for sure. Turkey have beaten France and the Netherlands recently with the same strategy.

In rare praise of a referee, he's had a great game. Many times players have gone down easily and he's played on, forcing them to stop doing it.

However, he did give offside from a corner kick. So that's inexcusable...

I might be willing to forgive. Might.
