I think there is a huge difference between knockout matches and group matches. In the knockout stages teams give it their best in terms of trying to win the game. In the group games, sides can afford to settle for a draw. That draw against Scotland essentially sealed England's qualification to the Round of 16. They just had and answer to everything their opponents threw at them. I mean, they faced Belgium who were also considered a title favourite, and the tactical ability they showed against them was just tremendous. Bore off you bald twat. I would say tactically England have been absolutely spot on. We haven’t conceded a goal in 5 games and continue to get better as the tournament goes along. I think safe to say England and Italy have been the stand out teams in this tournament and would be a fitting final if both can get there
Subscriber Dan+ Posted July 3, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted July 3, 2021 6 minutes ago, Michael said: It's about performances, not results. The Ukrainians almost snatched a draw in Amsterdam away to the Dutch and yes, they beat North Macedonia comfortably and no North Macedonia weren't the worst team in the tournament, I'd say Turkey were. Against Austria yes Ukraine deservedly lost 1 nil, but we saw Austria almost knock Italy out. Against Sweden sure they drew in 90 minutes but they earned the winner in extra time with a lovely goal through Dovbyk's cross. Also Zinchenko's goal was superbly taken after Yarmolenko's cross. Sweden's goal came via deflection, after Forsberg had a shot at goal. So it's important to analyse the matches, how they panned out and who the opposition was when making assessments. Anything can happen against Denmark, if England are as clinical as we have been against Germany and Ukraine, then we should win comfortably against Denmark. Ukraine were as bad as anybody in the last 8 I think but I've said also why I think that. I agree with you, fatigue. But the truth is I think a generous format with a big safety net, then winning a real 50/50 game in the last 16 is what got them this far. I said it before the game but I had Ukraine down as a bit of a dark horse to go on a bit of a run pre-tournament. I had them to top their group. But in all honesty they just haven't been all that impressive for me. Massively let down in a crunch game with Austria (which ended up not actually being, but we didn't know that at the time), I didn't think they were unfortunate to lose against the Netherlands and frankly beating Macedonia is the bare minimum. Ukraine have some good players but I think the draw and format got them as far as anything. I don't think they were one of the best eight teams in it. 3 minutes ago, Michael said: I don't think Yaremchuk's effort was a half chance, that was a genuine effort in front of goal, which Pickford did well to save. But yeah, Ukraine were definitely fatigued after the Sweden game. Southgate has done very well, I think we have to give him a lot of credit how he has rotated the team and achieved all these positive results. No goal conceded in 5 matches is a huge feat. The Yaremchuk chance was strangely similar to one Werner had in the last round. He probably should've taken the shot slightly earlier but he took it that bit too far wide. I thought Pickford could've probably held it. Pickford did slice a clearance at 0-4 as well but the game was up by then, although clearly we'll want to keep this clean sheet record as long as possible. I'm eating my words a bit on Southgate. We've not achieved anything yet, but there are definitely signs that we're going to. I feel like we've got more to give. I'm very torn at the minute - I think an England v Italy final but it is so hard to say who'd win it.

I do understand your hope and hype, and you do have fantastic players and I really admire Southgate's tactics and stoic ways. But Italy... they'll eventually hurt you. I've been there. Danny
I don’t know why people are overlooking Spain tbh, I get that Morata is hit or miss but Italy don’t have the same ability to cut through a team with incisive passing that Spain do. Both will be favourites if we were to make it to a final, but I think I would rather play Italy over Spain. We have a better chance against their relentless work ethic than we do against Spain’s ability to suddenly play through your defence.
Panna King
Denmark will stuff England in the Semis, forget about Italy, Denmark have been my best team in the Euros by a mile. Nearly losing the life of a team mate, the way they all came together. They have lost their best player due to terrible circumstances but what they have gained after is a miracle. I hope they go on and win it.

I'm very torn at the minute - I think an England v Italy final but it is so hard to say who'd win it. Well you could say that the format was generous, but all the teams knew the format before the tournament started. They were placed in a tough group against the Netherlands and Austria. They were drawing 2-2 with the Netherlands with only 5 minutes left in Amsterdam, before they lost, I said that was a tad bit unfortunate away to a very strong side. I am not saying that the Netherlands didn't deserve to win, just as Ukraine deserved to beat the Swedes. You earn the results that you get. If you also analyse all Ukraine's goals, they were all quality goals generally speaking. No own goals, no deflections etc. Yeah, perhaps expectations of their performances were higher after their very successful Euro qualification results and recent impressive performances against teams like Portugal, France Switzerland and Spain, but it is what it is. Most of the Ukrainian players play domestically and the truth is that they don't have the fitness levels needed for a compressed tournament like this, where you have to travel around Europe and play several games in a small space of time, one after the other. But you are entitled to your opinion. Yeah, the Yaremchuk effort was very similar to Werner's. But either way, England have performed very well as a collective unit, without even mentioning the individual talent that is available in the squad. I am very sure that we will reach the final. Southgate deserves praise for improving this side and moulding a very strong team with these players. This England side is clearly stronger than our 2018 side that reached the World Cup semi-finals and I think that is saying something.

One title in all of your history and that was in '66... Germany's trophy collection is enormous in comparison. There's no rivalry on their end. The reaction to that win from England's perspective was equivalent to the frenzy of a bottom table side beating Man City.

Literally the first time England beat Germany since ‘66 in a major tournament and people find it weird that they celebrate? England ARE that bottom table side compared Germany at International level.
