Why didn’t VAR disallow Salah’s goal? Did the ball bounce off his head before the handball? Was that why?

I can only think that the rule where it hits the hand regardless of which part of the body it comes off got taken away.

Its a red, but by the timing of when they choose to get the VAR involved, you can tell the game has been engineered to be competitive when it shouldn't have been if Kane had gone when he should've.

Playing the majority of a headliner game 11 v 10 isn't acceptable, but with <20 mins to go you can look harder at those kinda of challenges. Keeps it interesting.

That decision doesn't vindicate the Kane decision either. He should have got red too.

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
  • scores in the opponents' goal:
    • directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
    • immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental

I guess he didn’t make his body bigger, didn’t do it on purpose, and didn’t score directly from it or immediately after.

I would say it’s immoderately after but because it went to Trent who crossed it in maybe not?

Will take that. Good point there all things considered. The referee will be hanging his Spurs shirt up in his wardrobe when he gets home, the vile little prick.

If it’s a red for Robertson, it’s a red for Kane. Fed up to the back teeth of these officials not being competent enough to do the job. Just ruins the game when shit like that happens.

Regardless of the controversies and somewhat poor officiating at times, that was a brilliant game to watch. Both sides properly going at it. Best of both worlds from Alisson and Robertson for Liverpool. Kane should have seen red. Alexander-Arnold did well and arguably Liverpool's best player. Salah was unusually quiet.

Love a good end to end game. This didn't fail to deliver.

Hahahaha mate. We had two pens turned down. If you want Jota then the fouls on Winks and Alli are pens too. Salah controls the ball with his arm for the second goal. You are unable to be objective. The ref was just bad for both teams as are the vast majority of officials in this country

Not saying Kane shouldn't have gone but it's not exactly unprecedented for referees to make an excuse for those challenges, we've seen players get away with a yellow for that before.

Robertson literally full on wellies another player in the back of the knee as hard as he can. Not saying he wasn't trying to kick the ball instead but it ends up as a really dangerous challenge. It would have been absolutely scandalous if he hadn't been sent packing for that.

Looks like Liverpool may have been fortunate on their second goal as well. If Salah didn't stop the first cross with his hand the attack fizzles out. That said, I wouldn't disallow it because the goal was a new phase of play and where do you draw the line? Still, not sure either side was significantly more or less hard done by by the officials. Try not to get too hysterical in response please.
