Selling a 30 year old with 3 goals probably isn’t bad business for them

I just heard it’s about 20m. You can’t refuse that money. Newcastle can’t do better though?

Gotta say if I was a Newcastle fan I'd be asking whether 20 million for Chris Wood was an upgrade on what you have currently.

Surely there are short term loan options better than Wood.

I actually don't think it's a bad piece of business. Wood is about 1 in 3 at Burnley which isn't too bad for a side that is looking to survive in the league. A long term option he isn't but it's just about staying up for Newcastle this season. Weakens a rival from their point of view as well.

Burnley are furious. They had no choice but to accept, Newcastle met the release clause of around £25m, strengthened their forward line and weakened a direct rival.

I think its a canny deal. If Newcastle stay up, will Wood be the main man in a year or so's time? No he probably won't. But all they need to concentrate on now is staying up and he is the kind of player you want in a dogfight.

Hasn't got many goals for Burnley this season admittedly but he's usually a good bet for 10-12 goals. That wouldn't be a bad return for Newcastle now with others chipping in.

Dyche must be livid though. Burnley probably have a contingency plan should this happen so I expect they will turn to the Championship for someone that fits a similar profile.

Chris Wood chasing the money then.

Can't really blame him tbh. I doubt he's on anywhere near as much at Burnley than he'll be on at Newcastle...

... also I'd rather live in Newcastle than Burnley, and it's not even a decision I'd have to think about for more than half a second xD

Yeah true. Newcastle a far better place.

Burnley vs Newcastle on the final day of the season just got a bit more interesting! May have already been a 6-pointer but wonder if Wood will score to send Burnley down...

Can't blame Chris Wood. A fat pay cheque for six months work and then gets the same pay for sitting on a bench.

Could be helpful in the Championship next year

Even if he is on bench when Wilson comes back that's not a bad option to have at all. If anyone saw us against Cambridge we had no idea what to do at 1-0 down. Throw the big man on is better than nothing

He could be the new Daryl Murphy cult hero.

I don't think Wood was at the top of the list. Origi is unavailable. Maybe other loans aren't interested.

We don't have anyone right now. There's only two strikers on the books, Wilson who is out for 8 weeks and Gayle who I think has Covid.

The Cambridge defeat led to a lot of excuses and claims that it was down to us not having a striker. At times ASM was upfront, then Jacob Murphy, then Ryan Fraser. Had we won that game we'd probably just accept ASM upfront against Watford this weekend, but because of the way that way went they're not taking chances.

Chris Wood had some decent form last season, if he finds that again they are in with a shout.

Expect Howe would play him alongside Wilson.

Feel they still need a better CB or a top keeper to be sure of staying up.

On one hand it might be a good deal. On the other hand it stinks of Eddie Howe spending money at Bournemouth which didn't go so well.

Seen a lot of comments on the price but we need to accept times have changed.

£20-25m seems to be the new £10-15m these days.

In the grand scheme of things, its not much, drop in the ocean for Newcastle who will go through a high turnover of players in the next 5 years anyway.
