Gunnersaurus Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 Right I'm of work sick so I thought I'd do a random thread. Is anyone else a nervous overtaker when they are walking? I find it awkward. Especially when people randomly change where they are walking on the pavement and swerve all over it.
Moderator Tommy Posted December 16, 2022 Moderator Posted December 16, 2022 Back when I had bad anxiety and panick attacks, yes. Now I don't give a shit.
nudge Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 For me it's only awkward when you want to overtake someone, but misjudge their speed somewhat, and so instead of overtaking them, you end up walking alongside them for a while

Especially if it's a woman in my case. She probably think I'm some sort of creep who wants to follow her or something. In that case I pretend to check something on my phone, like directions (look at Street signs too for maximum effect), so I can stop for a while. Another funny thing is, when I walk through a big crowd (like at Christmas Markets), I sometimes focus on a person going at a good speed and follow them, so they clear the path for me. Last week I saw a woman going at a good speed, so I followed her and she cleared the path for me. Later she got stuck and I noticed that she was doing the same and followed me. We gave each other a tow.

When people swerve from one side of the pavement to another is as well. I think there should be a law that if they do that you can push them out the fucking way. However I do it a lot myself so I would probably spend a lot of time on my ass if it were allowed
Administrator Stan Posted December 16, 2022 Administrator Posted December 16, 2022 @Coma another slow day
MUFC Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 Hate it when you speed up to get past but you can't get past because you underestimated their speed. Even with DRS it can still be difficult.

Do you look them in the eye? Do you look down? Do you say anything to them? I typically give them a glance and a nod, unless they initiate a "hello" or "how's it going", at which point I return with a "how you doin". Edit to say that we probably need a separate thread for this.
Waylander Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 Yes the worst are oldies and Mums with prams especially when trying to overtake the oldie and the oncoming Mum decides to speed up so brisk walk inevitably becomes a fast trot until obstacle has been passed. Worse than this was in my 20s and running for a bus, a good chance of making it yet my foot caught a part of uplifted pavement. I went flying, grazed my hand and knee creating a hole in my suit trousers and had scuffed my shoes. In that moment decided it would be better to get the next bus out of shame yet the bus waited for me ..............
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted December 16, 2022 Subscriber Posted December 16, 2022 When I first saw this thread I was going to say "I don't drive or have a car..." Back on topic, I could not give 2 shits about passing someone and a good "Excuse me, please" works wonders. Now, if you are talking about in a supermarket pushing a trolley that's a different kettle of fish, mothers with kiddies sitting in the kiddy seat are a nightmare, you have to decide which way to overtake them in case they cut you up or the young kiddie tossing a can of baked beans at you which HAS happened to me, not just beans either, I have had a pie tossed at me.
Waylander Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 @CaaC (John)Tend to give kids a wide berth, I walk through supermarkets quickly and kids can change directions at speed

Do you give way, or stand your ground?! Do you barge your way through, or politely step aside? Is it awkward afterwards? Do you forget about it instantly?
