Game of Thrones spinoffs are going to be how HBO milks content people are familiar with like the way Disney milks Star Wars and Marvel. Bet once Westworld is done, HBO tries to make some spinoffs out of that too. Quote

Cicero Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Hard to get invested in it when I've already read A Dance With Dragons. Still, was a really good opening episode. Quote
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted August 22, 2022 Subscriber Posted August 22, 2022 Watched the first one and it was alright. That's coming from somebody who has never seen Game of Thrones though. Quote

If the first option then I'm slightly confused by this comment . 1 Quote

Devil-Dick Willie Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 I am 7 minutes in and despise it. 3 minutes of lazy as fuck exposition followed by another "but I don't want to be a woman I want to do men stuff cos i'm strong too" cab off the rank. Quote

I'd like to know what you two were watching. Set design, costumes and camera work were great. Sweet. We knew they would be. Dialogue floated between mediocre and rubbish. As was quality of acting. Dr Who had some bright moments and some utterly garbage ones. Characters 2d, i'm utterly not invested thus far. Quote

Have you read Fire and Blood? Her being a woman on the Iron Throne essentially leads to a great battle against her Uncle. Quote
Devil-Dick Willie Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 I watched it last night and I couldn't tell you the name of 3 characters. Quote

No I hadn't but that is painfully obviously where the plot was taking us so nothing lost there. Quote
Spike Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 I’ve heard it is just sex and violence with none of the intrigue. 2 Quote
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted August 24, 2022 Subscriber Posted August 24, 2022 I don't need this to be a masterpiece. As long as it's not mega cringe I can enjoy it for what it is. 1 Quote

Game of Thrones will always draw heavy criticism from some that will not be happy with the direction it took and almost feel the need to nit pick at everything House of Dragon attempts to do. If you really hate it, fine, don't get yourself worked up by watching it I'd say. Simple. I enjoyed the first episode. It always takes a few episodes to get on board with the characters but for an opening episode, there was enough going on to keep me invested. The only thing personally I'd criticise is the CGI of the dragons, they didn't look great to me, certainly not to what we'd previously seen but I can let that slide. Cicero Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 It is funny how everyone hated GoT after season 8 yet the premier of House of the Dragon was the most viewed premier in HBO history. Quote

Lots of people hated it a lot earlier than that. I think I checked out around season four, watched a few more seasons but the quality was quickly becoming an issue. The main problem is that the two head writers just aren’t talented enough to work without Martin’s intense framework, and I think they fundamentally misunderstood why the show and books were popular. Something that was unique in wide appeal fiction quickly became very ‘Hollywood’. Everything got sloppy, sets, costumes, dialogue, pacing, too much meddling. 1 Quote

Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted August 24, 2022 Subscriber Posted August 24, 2022 It's usually the minor characters that grow to become more interesting. The motivations of the main Targaryen characters might be a tad obvious and one dimensional but the other characters, Hightower bunch, Velaryon bunch, Cristen Cole, Lord Strong all supposed to carry a bit more intrigue. Those just establish the culture and atmosphere, a cherry on top, not the main draw. Game of thrones begins with 3 nameless rangers going beyond the wall, to find some wildlings. They instead find corpses, are attacked by a white walker. Then we cut to the Starks, at home, where it's revealed a deserter from the wall is found. This is the survivor of that ranger party, who reveals that he saw white walkers to ned stark when he executes him. With that, we get the set up to the main villain story, explore both sides of the wall in the north, get some world building and are introduced to the Starks as characters. 0 exposition. The show showed, it didn't tell. It set up, then it waited a LONG time to pay off. In this garbage fucking show we got a few minutes of set up exposition, about how the Targaryans don't make women queens, then a clunky as fuck sequence around our main character and her love of dragons and desire to be a girl boss including some cringe dialogue ("You're a comfortable position" "I wanna eat cake every meal") and then in the very first episode she is made heir to the throne. It told, it didn't show, then it payed off first Utter fucking dross. Slop for the masses. Quote
Cicero Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 If Butt Hurt Billie is this critical on House of Dragon I can only imagine his reaction to the Rings of power series. I am highly anticipating the latter to be an abomination of incredible proportion. 1 Quote
