Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted August 11, 2018 Subscriber Share Posted August 11, 2018 8 hours ago, The Liquidator said: This time last season when you signed Salah I said he wouldn’t improve you. As It turned out, I was right with you finishing 4th again. As we stand on the start of this new season your club has spent money, lots of money, almost into the buying success class and the question is, will it improve you? For me signing a top goalkeeper is the most important signing you could have made. That alone must allow you to improve. Of course with this money spent there comes expectancy. Without a top two finish or a major cup win, taking in mind how you go into the season, it must be looked upon as a failure. I have to say I think Liverpool is going to be the most entertaining watch. Not the team on the pitch, but the army of fans who expect success to follow this transfer window where your owners have gone “All In” Enjoy fellers. Love how bold this post is and how this guy sticks to his guns. I'm not going to say that I agree with the sentiment that Salah didn't improve Liverpool, along with some other arguments posited in this post, but I would like to offer the forum fair warning that, if the opportunity presents itself, at appropriate times throughout the season, I may be lending my voice in support of @The Liquidator's views on Liverpool in the hope that we can convert these views from something that gets laughed off to something that can lead to some occasional minor rattlage and semi-regular unnecessary debate. Fair warning, that is all.
The Artful Dodger
'Almost into the buying success class...' Nice to see the plastics still know their own success isn't regarded as legitimate by any real fans and they know their place.

Guest
Real Madrid finish second in la liga. Ronaldo joins. They finish second in la liga. @The Liquidator logic. Ronaldo didn't improve Real Madrid

That all depends on how close we are in the league and the Champions League. Also, would winning the League Cup for example but having a poor year in the league and Champions League mean there would be no pressure? Not for me. Can't be arsed with the League Cup these days. The Artful Dodger
League cup only really alleviates pressure if you combine it with an improved league position/points tally. FA Cup still has something about it, that would be a better trophy.

Its very difficult to win the league or champions league. If you finished second in the league did well in th champions leagie and won the fa cup that would be good enough imo. But if you finish fourth again and don't win anything questions will be asked. But who wil you get better than klopp that's the problem. Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted August 11, 2018 Subscriber Share Posted August 11, 2018 Disagree with you guys. League Cup still counts for something. If winning that was Liverpool's only real sign of progress this season it would alleviate any pressure on Klopp for me.
LFCMike
Dejan Lovren is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after admitting Liverpool are “not happy” he has returned from the World Cup with an injury. Lovren is suffering from a stomach complaint and has not yet taken part in full training after returning to Melwood last Monday having helped Croatia to the World Cup final in Russia. The centre-back, who sat out Liverpool's final session on Saturday ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener at home to West Ham United, will visit a specialist in Holland to assess the problem, which forced him to play through the pain barrier during the World Cup final defeat to France last month. Do we have any fit CBs apart from VVD?
Dr. Gonzo
Playing an injured Lovren on pain pills is always a mistake, he plays like he’s high as fuck on pain pills...weirdly. Is Klavan not fit?

The Echo article mentioned that Klavan, Matip and Gomez have had fitness issues during pre-season but they weren't clear on whether any of them will make tomorrow

Dr. Gonzo
Just now, RandoEFC said: How bloody often is he on pain pills then? The first few months of last season he was on pain pills because he was playing with injury. He’s always been capable of making a high profile error, even if he’s had a long run of good performances... but if you look at any footage of him then, you can sort of see he’s a bit fucked up. There was one match I thought he was for sure drunk, and when it was revealed he was playing injured and on pain pills for the first few months I thought “that explains a lot, let’s not do that again please Jurgen.” If Lovren’s out for a while, I don’t really know who I’d prefer. Scratch that, I prefer Klavan but I don’t really know why. Don’t really rate Matip.

I think we're hoping Gomez will be fit for tomorrow which would be interesting as he's tipped to be our long term solution at CB.
Rick
First game of the season, I'm hoping it's Klavan. He's a good, stable option next to VVD.
Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted August 18, 2018 Subscriber Share Posted August 18, 2018 Just saw that Klavan has signed a move to Cagliari? Interesting that considering we're quite thin at the back. I am going to assume that what the manager has seen in pre-season and the first game led to him saying he could go as well. I thought he was actually a better pairing with VVD than some of the others.

In pre-season he ended up below Nat Phillips in the pecking order by the time the season rolled around and wanted more first team football. He’s been a good servant to the club in the short time he’s been here, never complained about not playing enough, has come into matches as an emergency substitute or playing a short run of matches because we needed him and playing well. A backup we could trust. I don’t begrudge him wanting to end his playing career by actually regularly playing. Its a bit worrying though, considering how injury prone Lovren, Matip and Gomez are. Dr. Gonzo
I know it's only been 2 matches... but how nice is it having long balls from our keeper actually go to our players instead of being aimless hoofs that can go anywhere? 1

Scary stuff. I’m glad he kept close with John Achterberg though, says something if our former players rating/liking him even though he’s been scapegoated quite a bit. Cool of him to put Alisson in our radar before his move to Europe.
