Interesting results.  Argentina needs a change after 17 years of Peronist socialism running the economy into the ground with inflation around 150%

Yes, spot on. The only people upset about this are the higher class in Buenos Aires who are afraid to change their livelihoods. 40% poverty in Argentina is embarrassing given their strong and powerful developed past.

Soviet South America falling apart, the Sao Paulo forum must be in panic mode right now. This is great news for the democracy of this continent. Just need to boot Maduro and Lula away from the continent now. Peru and Chile were the first examples of what to do. No wonder why all the Colombians and Venezuelans are going to those 2 countries.

I don't think Milei is a great solution or anything and he has a huge anti-human rights campaign but Argentina needs serious change. Kirchnerismo has done this country dirty.

Is this not concerning?

Just read up on this guy. Climate change denier, wants to make abortion illegal, and wants to liberalise gun laws? Fucking hell.

So just another Trump/Bolsonaro-Clown.

They voted for the guy who wants to let the poor sell their organs to survive.

Strap in Argentina, you’re about to go on a bit of a ride.

To be honest there are a lot of Argentines, my wife's family included, that are absolutely relieved and thrilled of his election.  For the past 30 years poverty in Argentina has gotten worse whilst the debt has increased substantially. A lot of suffering these past two decades and I mean suffering. Country desperately needed ideas to combat this inflation and it isn't surprising at all that Argentina has now pushed to the capitalistic right. The one thing that worries me is what any other country that goes through a complete political shift, which are too many radical changes too soon.

Yes, it very much is. Milei is a massive nutcase, but I think most of us are just relieved that the continent is slowly straying away from the left. Like I said at the start of the thread, it was literally picking between AIDS and Ebola but I think the Argentines picked the smarter choice for the moment. There is absolutely no reason Massa should have made it to this run off after what he did as the minister of economy.

40% poverty in Argentina. Peru has less than 20%. For Argentina's standards that is absolutely embarrassing. Something needed to change. I am not sure Milei is the exact solution to this but it's a completely justified choice for the moment thanks to what Kircherismo has left on this country.

What's his plan to resolve the poverty issue?

I think one of the main ones is to dollarize Argentina, similar to what Ecuador did in the early 2000's. I am curious as to how that will work, or if it will be as effective as it was in Ecuador back then.

I think what helps Argentina is that the majority of Argentines already save in US dollars. Issue was that they are limited to exchange only $200/month, which in turn created a black market.

People, tired of the slow tightening choke hold of regular politics, voting in a psychotic clown to give them a green light to act out and be crazy. Seen this one before.

Would be nice if smart politicians that want to change how politics works could get into power instead of the intellectually lazy psychos that say they want to change how it works but always end up indulging in the bad aspects of politics.

Unfortunately it's a lot easier to get people to embrace their anger and their unpacked emotions than it is to get them to think.

Absolutely bollocks.

6 our of 8 Argentine kids don't get to eat every day, 150% inflation, the country is poorer than Peru and Chile, something unthinkable 50 years ago.

Milei is a massive nutcase but the other option was literally going to keep driving Argentina into the ground. The man solely responsible for all of Argentina's inflation. The fact he even had any shot at becoming president is shocking.

How can one man be solely responsible for a country's inflation?

Obviously he's not the only problem but it's what he represents (kirchnerismo/peronismo) and he was the man in charge of the economy. He's clearly going to get most of the blame. The only ones voting for him were the lazy workers in Buenos Aires that were kept running by the government.
