Cicero
Turning into Hockey. Next thing we'll see is the ref allowing 2 minutes for players to fight it out.
Whiskey
Seem to be doing everything possible, apart from fixing the real issue which is severe incompetence at referee level.

Yeah I'd love to see lots more money pumped into grassroots level or training for officials at all levels. Apparently uptake for refereeing in the UK is at its lowest levels ever because of the abuse they face, but also they make referees jobs harder and harder as each season goes by. Constantly fighting a losing battle. It's just plastering over the cracks having rules like this implemented.
Subscriber Dan+ Posted November 28, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted November 28, 2023 I swear this only captains can challenge thing has happened about six times now.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted November 28, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted November 28, 2023 I can't even be arsed to decide whether this is a potentially good idea or not because either way, the implementation will be such an inconsistent pile of garbage and cause so many more controversies that it doesn't make a difference. Danny
I think this is a good idea, how professional footballers treat referees has caused a crisis in refereeing down to grassroots level. If a protocol is needed to prevent refs from being abused by players and coaching staff then it should be introduced. With that said it is ironic that this is being introduced at a time of possibly the worst level of officiating we’ve ever seen. Referees need to be protected but clearly there is an issue at the very top which is causing all of the inconsistency and bad decisions that have occurred this season. Heard there was talk of VAR intervening for corners and the like? Madness surely at this point?
Honey Honey
It will be the same inconsistent application. Therefore we must not do this. If we want to clean up discipline impose post match yellow cards or red cards on players after all footage is reviewed by a panel in conjunction with referee mic and statement. Dr. Gonzo
I don't think this will change anything, other than making football more frustrating than ever, until the standard of referees improves.
Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted November 29, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted November 29, 2023 The rules themselves are so ambiguous. What in the world constitutes a "specific tactical offense" and how do you quantify that in a game running real-time? Also, this whole talk about captains approaching refs only has never been enforced because the refs themselves don't want to dish out cards to stop it. Do it enough and the players will stop. The problem isn't just refereeing (which is the catalyst) but the fact that once order breaks down the refs just let it continue. Want some respect then start enforcing the rules better. Lucas
So someone will get sent to the sin bin for an offence then the team with a man down will go ultra defensive for 10mins to see out that period before getting their player back? Yeah, what a great idea...
6666
The captain thing is actually pretty stupid. This expectation that players involved in incidents will just turn off emotion and not plead their case is unrealistic. What would the punishment be for that? A booking? Soft yellows are the main reason football feels the need to come up with new and different punishments. Solution is to trial not being so trigger happy with yellow cards.
