England National Team Discussion

I think England should really utilise the creativity they have. They’ve lacked creative players, particularly in midfield, for years.

Put TAA RB then and have Maddison in there. He'll thrive in a team like that with plenty of options ahead of him in addition to TAA bombing up that right flank.

James has played how many matches for Chelsea? I don't see how he's even in consideration for England at this point. Surely Trent, Walker and Wan-Bissaka are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Also seems strange to take England's best right back, who's doing really well playing at right back, and putting him in central midfield... where I've seen him play before and well, let's just say it's different to playing him at right back.

You're right. Keep James out. Need him fresh for next season.

How many matches has he started this season? Is it all 15? I know he got injured earlier, was that the only injury he's had?

It's weird how England have so many good right backs right now.

He's arguably our most creative player. There's also Grealish and Maddison who have contributed loads, although I don't know how they'd complement each other.

Think England would benefit with stacking as many creative players in midfield as they can, given that's been an area they've struggled with in the past.

Genuinely wouldn't start a single Leicester player at the minute until the form picks up. I'd have Saka and Grealish in over Chilwell and Maddison on current form. Vardy as well has gone right off but I think he'll get it back - moot point anyway as he's retired and he won't come back.

England are fucked if Kane isn’t fit.

If he's not fully fit, I don't think he should be rushed back though. We've done that so many times with key players for England, having a half fit Rooney out on the pitch in tournaments looking well off the pace is something that just makes me think if Southgate does the same with Kane, that's just such a typical England manager thing to do.

But yeah, if he's not fit to go or not really match fit... then we're definitely fucked.

Behind closed doors?

Yep although based on Johnson's announcement earlier today it's still to be confirmed and also how many people could be allowed.

What's the point in playing it at Wembley if there is no one in attendance?  Shorly they could play it at a smaller stadium.

Kalvin Phillips in the squad. Thoroughly deserved.

I did say in February he was playing himself into the Euro's squad on one of the Leeds threads which I think got scoffed at, but he's had a monster season and has earned the right for a call up.

Great to see Foden and Greenwood in for the first time too. Two players who hold a great future for this country and who could be massive wildcards for us next summer now the tournament has been postponed a year.

Looks like a decent squad, but I am not sure if Kalvin Philips should be there, he's not at the same level as the other midfielders in my opinion(I don't care if he has played very well in the Championship, because Premier League football and top tier international football are a much higher standard). Also Maguire shouldn't really have gotten a call up, he's been a very naughty boy recently. :S

The midfield is terrible.

Ironic how Maguire is the golden boy but Sterling has an altercation with another player and gets dropped, Maddison goes to a casino (!!!!!) and is dropped.

Southgate has no bollocks.
