in my lifetime, Ryan Giggs is still world's above.

They're not gonna do anything at international level because Wales are overall pretty shite (sorry @Bluebird Hewitt

So we base things on club level - Giggs won 13 (?) league titles with Utd. Bale has won 1 so far with Real.

Bale has won more Champions League accolades but invididually, Giggs must have won more surely. I doubt Bale will even reach the accolade level that Giggs did.

Bale's next move is huge. Whether that's staying at Real or leaving...

No probs. We're about as shite internationally as England anyway. :10_wink:

As for this, I'd say Giggs simply because he was more or less consistent at club level for pretty much every season until his retirement. International wise, Bale pisses on Giggs from a great height.

However, as the topic is greatest Welsh player of all time (and obviously before my time), you can't forget John Charles.

Edit: Artful Dodger beat me to it.

Easily the best, Bale is far superior player to Giggs. Giggs' longevity was outstanding but he isn't near Bale in terms of peak performance.

Harsh on Giggs, he was the shining light in British football when first broke through in the early 90s, famous for his mazy dribbles and earning comparisons to George Best. Bale, as good as his big moments have been, has been reduced to a bench player for Real Madrid and it's not just down to injuries, Zidane just doesn't fancy him as a starter anymore. Bale certainly has had some massive moments which Giggs has less off but I certainly don't see Bale as being far superior in any way. Both brilliant players.

Can't really give Gareth that title just yet. He's winning things and has come through in some very critical moments for his present club but to call him the greatest of all time is a slap in the fact for Giggs who has clearly won a lot more and was a mainstay at a club that won a lot as well. Give him another 5 years and see what happens. He has to make a decision on his future now and we'll have to wait and see what he does at the next club he goes to because you could be at a big club and win medals and honors by just warming a bench versus being in the starting XI. For the record I think hes a stellar athlete and he's wasting his time at Madrid where I don't think he'll ever get as much playing time as he desires.

Bales helped his case with those CL final winning goals. He could eclipse Giggs with time but not there yet.

Also think there's a bit of an asterisk on Bale overall for going to Spain. He would have been the face of the EPL if he'd still been there. The British face. He took the path of anonymity in Spain which i feel slightly disappointed by.
