Wales - Ryan Giggs

"We have always favoured Welsh people because arguably the passion is there," said FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford.

"Somebody said this earlier, Welsh most definitely, foreign possibly, but definitely not English."

The last six Wales managers, including caretakers, have been Welsh, with Bobby Gould the last English - and non-Welshman - to manage Wales in 1995-1999.

Can’t see how it’s bitter to say the next Manager isn’t going to be English, mainly because the quality of English manager in the Premier League out there at the minute isn’t that high due to the safe approach teams are taking with their appointments of the likes of Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson, which is in turn stopping the development of younger English managers.

However, using unmeasurable and imaginary clichéd footballing terms like “passion” is a bit weird and nothing more than a veiled dig at the English National set-up.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has begun disciplinary action against its chief executive Jonathan Ford for saying the next Wales manager could be "foreign", but "definitely not English".A disciplinary panel will meet to question Ford on the matter, though he is working as normal as Wales look to replace Chris Coleman, who departed following the failure of the national team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia, next summer.

Surely it's just a fact of rivalry that you would prefer not to pick someone from the other side. Do we have to pretend there are equal opportunities here xD

Lets not pretend it isn't yet another snipe at England.

English managers are awful, in fact British managers are. They should just go for foreign like England should.

I said this before and after Allardyce. English managers are at a premium anyway and all possible candidates probably need to test themselves elsewhere before being considered for the role and for that reason, England should have looked abroad. As should Scotland and Wales.

  • The title was changed to Ryan Giggs To Be Named Wales Manager

"We have always favoured Welsh people because arguably the passion is there," said FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford.

"Somebody said this earlier, Welsh most definitely, foreign possibly, but definitely not English."

Now, given that Ryan Giggs only played for Wales when it suited him, I'd argue that Jonathan Ford looks a little silly.
