Not really. United just need someone who's cross can past the first defender. TAA and Wan Bissaka are genuinely polar opposites. Good for England though.
Administrator Stan Posted June 17, 2019 Administrator Posted June 17, 2019 He's a huge step up on Ashley Young so no wonder Utd want him so badly.

I know he got the odd assist last season but you need to be creating a lot from full back these days to be justifying the top money. Anyway, apparently Man Utd have had a £50m bid turned down today. He's more of an old school RB, but that doesn't mean he doesn't make good runs forward. He's just not got the same crossing ability as RBs that are better going forward with more attacking output. He's got the pace and strength though to cover the gaps left when he does push forward. In the right system, I don't think there's anything wrong with fullbacks that don't put up the same numbers as players like TAA, Robertson, Digne, etc... With Liverpool, for instance, the fullbacks provide most of our width when we go forward and our wingers/wide forwards typically cut inside to be a threat in the box. They sort of fulfill the role in our side that would traditionally be filled by wingers, made possible by the way our midfield is set up and the fact that we defend from the front with our pressing. With the right midfielders and wide players, a fullback like Wan-Bissaka can be very successful. Apparently United's bid was £35m + £15m in possible add-ons, that Palace seem unimpressed with. They likely would have accepted if it was £50m with no add-ons, I think. That's what the journo with that price breakdown seems to suggest, in any case. I hope he doesn't go to United though. I think in the right circumstances, he'll go on to be a very good player. I think @Cicero is right, and Spurs would be the best possible club for him in England. Or Chelsea if this transfer ban doesn't stick, tbh.
Inverted Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 I like Wan Bissaka but to me this is all far too much fuss for him. He's had one good season, primarily because of extremely good defensive performances in a system where he doesn't have to attack much. Far from guaranteed to click at a top team. But he has a lot of developing still to do.
Administrator Stan Posted June 19, 2019 Administrator Posted June 19, 2019 £55m deal agreed apparently...
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted June 19, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 19, 2019 I really rate him but I still think it's absolutely ridiculous money for a full back who hasn't really developed his attacking game that much yet. If he's Uniteds full back for the next 10 years that's immediately one aspect of the team that is weaker than Man City (Walker) and Liverpool (Alexander-Arnold). Then again, Liverpool and City both have better centre backs so can allowed to have more attacking full backs. United can't really say the same right now.

Yeah but you know City are going to find a youngish right back who will be a good all rounder already and they'll get the right coach after Pep to develop them in the exact way that's required. Wan Bissaka might be more or less the finished article defensively but Solskjaer won't be around for long and god knows who they'll get next. If they get Poch then maybe there's a chance he has the right manager to develop him into one of the best modern full backs in the world but £55m seems a bit much for a player who isn't screaming out that he has that profile.
True Blue Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 55 mill bid accepted claimed by shit sources. Still waiting for a reliable one.
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted June 20, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 20, 2019 Aaron Wan-Bissaka set for Manchester United as stunning fee agreed to make star most expensive full-back ever Crystal Palace defender has been at the centre of a transfer wrangle but is now set to move to Old Trafford. Manchester United have agreed on a fee with Crystal Palace for the transfer of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. According to a source familiar with the negotiations, the deal values Wan-Bissaka at £55million, a world record sum for a specialist full back. Following a series of rejected offers from United, the agreement for the England under-21 international who completed his second season of English Premier League football last month surpasses the €57.5m Manchester City paid AS Monaco for Benjamin Mendy two summers ago. It also ensures that United have both a right back and a left back bought from domestic rivals for record fees. Luke Shaw - who has started just 66 Premier League matches in his five seasons at Old Trafford - cost the club a then-record fee for a teenage defender of £30m when arriving from Southampton in 2014. Dave Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 Our ITKs reckon this is nearly all done. Sad to think we have only really seen him for 18 months but he remains a great example of why we should keep investing in the academy.
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted June 23, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 23, 2019 Manchester United and Crystal Palace have held talks over a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which could see the 21-year-old English defender move to Old Trafford for an initial £42.5m. (Mail)
Honey Honey Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 A "specialist" full back That's not fooling anyone. £55m is crazy money on a full back.
Dave Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 It's not 55 million unfortunately. They're trying to offer 25-30 with a ton of add ons. It's like when Tottenham offered 20 million for Saido Berahino but were actually offering 3 million. Aaron can be as good as he wants to be. Hes got endless stamina, pace and his defensive game is almost faultless. Hes better at going forwards than people give him credit for, and at his age he can still improve. If he wants to be the Manchester United right wing back for ten plus years he will be. If he wants to join Jesse Lingards instagram gang then more fool him. The ideal scenario would be we get at the very least 45 million up front with add ons and we can use that money to sign Nathaniel Clyne and Michy Batshuayi. Given the owners will not be investing any further that could be our business for the summer which isnt necessarily a bad thing. I'm not massive fond of Clyne but that's more down to the attitude hes shown us than his footballing abilities.
Subscriber Dan+ Posted June 23, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 23, 2019 I do like the fact run of the mill PL sides can turn down this money from the top teams now.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted June 23, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 23, 2019 Palace should definitely be holding out for £40m up front at least with a bunch of add ons. United will get desperate enough and will pay it.
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted June 24, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 24, 2019 Aaron Wan-Bissaka: Manchester United hopeful of signing Crystal Palace defender Manchester United remain hopeful of signing Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka. BBC Sport understands talks between the two clubs are continuing although, as yet, no deal has been agreed. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bolster his squad for the new season. He has identified 21-year-old Wan-Bissaka, who is currently on England Under-21 duty in Italy, as having the youth and speed he is looking for. It has been suggested Palace want around £50m for the Croydon-born defender, who joined the Palace academy when he was 11 and made his first-team debut in 2018. Solskjaer said earlier this summer that he wanted his transfer business completed early in the window but, with his players due to report for training on 1 July, so far, the only new arrival has been Wales winger Daniel James, 21, who was signed from Swansea earlier this month for £15m. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48746348

The deal is worth £50m and the 21-year-old Englishman is likely to travel for a medical imminently before going on holiday. United have offered Wan-Bissaka a long-term contract that would lift his salary from £10,000 per week - he is the lowest-paid player in Palace's first-team squad - to up to £90,000 per week. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48770843
Inverted Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 Obviously he has potential, but so does Dalot. Seems very much like a hype signing more geared to keep the fans excited about a player coming off the back of a season of really good media coverage.
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted June 26, 2019 Subscriber Posted June 26, 2019 Imagine getting an extra £80,000 a week - crazy! Definitely not worth £50m though.
