  1. Flick, who as a national team manager is obliged to be neutral regarding German club football results, mentioned he would have pleased if Freiburg won the cup on a manager congress. Looking forward to the in´dignation storm in a tea cup, I expect.

  2. Came back from a 5 day trip to Northern Germany today. Stayed in Cuxhaven for 5 days, which is a coastal town and the northernmost point of the state of Lower Saxony. I liked it a lot better than the usual town I stay in when I visit northern Germany. Some impressions. This ship was built in 1904. It has quite a history. It was re-discovered in Sweden in 1979, and brought to Hamburg for repairs. But it was determined that it would be too expensive to restore it, so they gifted it to the town of Cuxhaven. Lotsenviertel in Cuxhaven. Very hipster-ish, but pretty. Ritzebüttel Castle in Cuxhaven. "Swiss House" in the Castle's park. Built in 1847 as a tea house. And then on my way back to Düsseldorf, I visited Bremen for 2-3 hours. Never been there before, so I wanted to take a look. A very old phonebooth now a plant house. Schnoor-Viertel. The oldest part of Bremen. And of course, the Westerstadion. Home of Werder Bremen.

  3. When you post something random in the thread and people come in and over analyse it's content with Wikipedia and Sleep study data...

  4. I'm very skeptical that it's an accurate account of what happened to him. It goes against everything we know about the effects of sleep loss/deprivation, and I'm extremely doubtful that a brain injury (especially the frontal lobe, which is not related to sleeping at all) would change that so significantly, either. I could believe the part about him not being able to sleep; there are some diseases that cause it too, but I don't believe he would have been able to live for another 40 years. Maybe he slept 2 hours a day? Maybe he experienced multiple microsleep episodes each day? As @Bluewolf said, it probably got exaggerated over time until it became an urban legend of sorts. If the story is true after all, then he indeed was a medical oddity. It's a pity that more data is not available; neuroscientists would have a field day...

  7. Actually, and I'm honest here, it's short-sighted the messure a league's competition level only by the fact, which team won the title. Also Real Madrid won more Spanish titles, than Bayern won German ones, although the Spanish championship is younger than the German. To be frank, English people pointing at the Buli with the note of failure to compete has more to do with the English inability to give German football any credit - highlighted by their delusional claim England and Germany were rivals on International level, although Germany won 7 big titles compared to England's 1- than with reality. That said I share many people's desire for a champion that aren't Bayern.

  8. Superb season again. A real benchmark for what can be achieved through excellent management, great player development and smart recruitment. Should be proud as I’m sure you are of the team you have right now. One of the very best the league has ever seen. Only robbed of another title by a dodgy state run club, who admittedly are brilliant, but very different in their composition to how you’ve been put together.

  9. While Vardy has retired he only did so because he was never properly valued. Which I think he was well within his rights.

  11. You would think so... however when you consider the brain functions that send signals all through the body like when we react to very hot or cold things to the touch for example then if a bullet somehow damaged those parts of the brain those signals might be switched off or damaged beyond repair which might allow us to touch extreme hot or cold items and not feel the pain perhaps but sustain the damage from such things.. It's possible that it could affect us in other ways like sleep for example, It's also possible that he did sleep but only a small amount each day and the stories became exaggerated over time.. The popular press have published stories about people who supposedly never sleep, such as that of Thái Ngọc and Al Herpin.[150] Horne writes "everybody sleeps and needs to do so," and generally this appears true. However, he also relates from contemporary accounts the case of Paul Kern, who was shot in wartime and then "never slept again" until his death in 1943.[151] Kern appears to be a completely isolated, unique case.

  12. He did it after the last tournament he was involved in, I think. I think Abraham's the best striker to back up Kane for us. He's had a great year at Roma and... well, look at his goalscoring record. He's not the best striker in the world and there are certainly some flaws in his game... but he gets on the end of chances and he puts them away. I think the lads in Italy deserve maybe more of a chance for England than some of the other players in the squad in their positions. Tomori, imo, should be playing alongside Stones for the time being. Maguire's been in absolute dogshit form... Tomori's been an absolute beast for AC Milan and was a HUGE part for why they won the Serie A. To me that makes him seem like a better choice for a starter than Maguire, Coady, or Guehi. And Abraham's really the only "main striker" we've got if Kane goes down.

  13. It'll be Man City or Liverpool again. Big gulf between those 2 and any other side that fancies challenging them.

  14. It's good so far but it's very different I think. The setting is the same (Hill House) but as far as I know they made up almost a whole new story for the Netflix series. The book is closer to the film The Haunting from the 1960s.

  16. Through to the semi finals of the Play Offs now after beating Notts County last night. The BT Sport coverage was so biased towards Notts County so I was thrilled we proved them all wrong. Onto Wrexham on Saturday now where no doubt the coverage will be a wankfest over Ryan Reynold's lot.

  19. trans issue is classic dead catting. Create a massive culture war over something that effects less than 0.5% of the population so that the voters forget the supply chain issues, the falling GDP and GBP, the fact that over 1 in 3 English children are being born into objective poverty.

  22. I'm stressed to the point of physical illness recently. I'm going off at inanimate objects and thinking about harming myself or others daily. Been years since I felt this way. Just a huge pile on of shit that seems insurmountable from where I'm at currently.
