Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak

Pubs, bars, theatres, comedy clubs, restaurants, small businesses, etc, etc cannot claim their insurance because Boris doesn’t want to impose a lockdown

Read a few bits about Boris being paid to be a keynote speaker at an insurance industry event but really not sure if that was a stretch or not. Either way a lot of people are going to be fucked because of him

Claims that South Korea used chloroquine diphosphate salt + zinc treatment combo to block COVID-19

Tested on 24 people in Marseille, and six days later 75% of them no longer have coronavirus.

We are also exploding in only one state because of people that came from Iran, lock down might be the best option

Heard football in Pakistan was suspended today. Shame, was hoping for Pakistan Airforce vs Khan Research Labs in the meantime :(

China going into overdrive with a wonderfully orchestrated propaganda. I hope we never forget how they hid data and cases.

On a side note, at office currently, but have been told to work from home on alternate days. So basically we will always have 50% of staff at office, while 50% work from home, and then the groups exchange places the next day. This is not ideal, but better than having to come to work on all 5 days.

My only worry is transport. But at least the government is regularly disinfecting local trains and buses. Though, I doubt  whether that would work.

Cases are slowly rising. Thankfully more and more state governments are bring out stringent laws against gatherings, or people running away from quarantines.

Insurance companies can't pay out. They'd collapse long before they managed to pay everyone. Only the central bank can save businesses.

Trump has said gatherings should have no more than 10 people for the next 15 days.

2 weeks ago he said this whole thing is nothing :4_joy: as a journo said on twitter this is his Chernobyl where the bullshit and lies backfire.

Also calls it the 'Chinese virus'

This was actually difficult to find on the gov website. In reference to what Boris was saying about being isolated for 12 weeks if you an underlying health condition.

Yesterday he didn't mention what those would be (only if over 70 or pregnant women). Interestingly, the article below doesn't state anything about a 12-week period as advised in his conference yesterday?

Including my daughter who was here yesterday telling me they are going to be laying people off as a result of these measures... going to be some rough times ahead for everyone

There's a lot of pressure coming to close the schools. It'll come this week I'm sure. It's simply ridiculous to suggest that avoiding pubs and stuff will help when you've got hundreds of households sharing germs through their kids on a daily basis.

This argument that shutting schools down will disrupt the NHS because workers will have to stay at home and look after their kids doesn't wash. Also the argument about grandparents having to look after kids and being vulnerable to their germs. If we're going to assume the kids have the virus why is it better to send them to school to share them with all of their classmates and teachers and increase the spread even more? And how many families with kids of school age have two parents who both work for the NHS or can't work from home, and not a single auntie, uncle or under-70 grandparent that can help them out with babysitting?

It also goes to highlight how teachers and schools are perceived more as daycare than a place which exists to provide an education to young people.

Two solutions could be to close the majority of schools and keep just a few open so that kids of NHS workers have somewhere to be looked after. This is far from ideal logistically but at least it gets most of the kids in isolation. Or the government could fund more childcare for these families in some way, even if it means redistributing teachers temporarily to look after kids.

None of this is ideal but it's absolute madness keeping schools open for much longer. As a teacher, I already catch some sort of mild cold or bug at least once every term. It's incredibly uncomfortable if you, for example, live with your elderly parent as a primary caregiver, and are asked to go and expose yourself to germs from hundreds of different households on a daily basis. I can't believe people are actually buying the fact that closing schools would cause more harm than good. Once again, the rest of the world has been forced to go down that route. Why do we think we know better and wait until we have no choice instead of being proactive?

Yeah I’ve not read that before but have read that anyone with the flu jab yearly due needs to stay away from people.

Looks like I will be spending a lot of time on this forum over the next 3 months 😅

Our school is already sending kids home if they have a cough, and we still have no confirmed cases on the island and are at least a week behind the UK in this process. School closures will be sooner than they're saying.

Might be a blessing in disguise you're on an island.

Are boats/ferries allowing people in/out of the island?
