Going from the biggest club in Catalonia to the smallest in Manchester would be a bit of a shock to the lad.

You are aware how silly that makes you sound when City is the only pro football club in Manchester? xD  :coffee:

Lionel Messi's contract states he CAN leave for free - Barcelona president branded a "clown" by journalist for not knowing

The Lionel Messi saga is entering its most dramatic stage yet, with the latest reports from Spain and elsewhere contradicting the official La Liga statement and Barcelona's position that the Argentine forward cannot leave for free this year.

Spanish radio station Onda Cero, as relayed by Rafael Hernandez, claim to have seen a copy of Messi's contract - and they say that it contains a clause which means the release clause does not apply to the player's final season, meaning he is free to leave without the need for a fee to be agreed.

Lionel Messi is facing a suspension and £1.1million ($A2M) fine for missing Barcelona training as his “free agent” row with the club ignites.
The Barcelona superstar did not report to training today - nor Sunday’s coronavirus testing for the squad.

Marca say Messi - who will reportedly be offered a record £450m ($A816M) over five years by Man City - is set to incur “serious penalties” as a result of his actions.

Messi’s cousin, Maximiliano Biancucchi Cuccittini, has urged Barca to allow him to go to Manchester

Cuccittini said: “He has to find the place where he can be happy. If he was happy at Barcelona, he would have stayed there. He no longer has that happiness there and he wants to find a new direction. It’s his right to do so.

“I would like to see him in a team that plays well. I am passionate about good football.

“Of all the teams that have been suggested, I feel that Manchester City would be a good fit

Lol of course they don’t. All of those 12 year olds that watch Messi like Teso watched Ronaldo would probably never watch La Liga again.

Weird to see a league release a statement on a player's contract with his club. La Liga is run like a joke though.

Genuinely can't believe people used to rate La Liga del Messi la Ronaldo above the Bundesliga. People called the Buli a 2 team league. La Liga was a 2 player league.

El Classico won't be much of a classic once Messi leaves too :coffee:

I can't think of a more epic ending than having to retire because you can't legally cancel your contract and play for someone else.

It's about time this happened to someone.

Worse case he can buy his last year out for 52million    ..on less he has a last minute Kaka ""fan pressure" style u-turn we will get him oneway or another cheap! :hh:

Cheating ... in other words ^_^

This goes into pretty heavy detail on our financial plan.

If you want the td;dr version, this window was long identified as a rebuild window.  We are relying heavily on the amortization of players sales/purchases and Roman's influence. Unlike other club owners, Roman is willing to spend big and take advantage of the Covid financial landscape.  Investing heavily in young talent aiming the club to be champions league regulars and competitors which would give us the financial boost over the long run.
